So I've been playing Rome for the first time, and I think I'm getting the hang of it, but there's a small problem. I have no idea how to recruit new units. I simply can't find a single button that leads to anywhere that I can pick a unit to recruit and then do so.

It's not so much of a problem immediately, but I expect it will become one after a while.

Can anyone help?

Hi

its in the province screen. So open up a province and at the bottom there are a number of buttons that allow you to recruit land units, ships or to build something.

select the land unit icon and a list of what is available will pop up. What is available (& the speed of production) will vary by province according to how you have set up your trade routes.

Be careful at draining all your manpower on new stuff, it is the scarce resource in this game. If you are playing a rich state, seriously consider recruiting mercenaries - they are more expensive, but do not cost you manpower (to raise or to reinforce) and do not become loyal to any character.

Ok, thanks, I see it now. Thanks for the advice as well.

FWIW, the hotkey for training troops in the selected province (or the most recently selected province if none is currently selected) is "f".

d = Buildings
f = Troops
g = Ships

Might help to speed things up somewhat :)
