Hello,

I found out that it is WAAAY to easy to recruit armies in your colonies. It is especially implausible if you kill the natives first (who are you gonna recruit then?).

I had a 800 people colony in Madras (good tax value!) which produced 6000 infantry a month, so if you only want infantry thats 72.000 a year! Thats was more than my yearly manpower, and I was Russia! Without Recruitment Center!

Now I'm establishing an operational base off China, and have colonies in Mekong and Dalat (with 6000-10000 people since I kept the natives). These are even better at 10000 infantry/month each.

IMO linking the max. recruitment to taxation with no relation whatsoever to the population gives this unrealistic result. And giving colonies 50 % of the home nations is unrealistically high.

Finally, recruitment centers in colonies should be a NO-NO.

Bottom line: If you want a colonial empire, set up a network of fleets and naval bases and bring the boys from home.

Population is the number of people living in (around) the capital city NOT the province as a whole.

Rest of the World Provinces are generally much larger then the Europen too, so as far as the manpower go, 72k soldiers are not really a problem.

Recruitment centers are not allowed outside of 'national' provinces, as I understand it.

Maybe recruitment levels should be some combination of the city pop. and the province pop. I.e. you can recruit some natives into your armies (as was done by European powers - or perhaps more specifically they functioned as allied or auxiliary forces in some cases) but you can't recruit at the same level as you can your own citizens....

That argument is moot. If you've killed all the natives they are gone. At least they are killed to such an extent that the local 'chief' was not able to raise any force at all. And YOU as the player you find 70.000 able bodied men EVERY YEAR! To remind you that is 7 times the manpower value of Portugal, and I don't see too many provinces that are 14 times the size of Portugal (7 x 2 because of the colony modifier). Frex Vietnam has 5 provinces and 350.000 sq km, Portugal has 92.000 sq km.

But IMO more important is the effect on game play: If you want troops in your colonies, you should have to send most of them from home! But currently there is no such restriction. You need 70.000 guys in Indochina: One year of production and you're done! Why ship them from Europe which takes much longer and creates tons of attrition!
