Okay here is what happened:

I am peacefully playing EU2 then suddenly my refresh rate jumps to something my monitor cannot handle and the screen starts to wobble. Needless to say the game is unplayable in that state.

My settings: 1024x768 on a 17inch Aquaview 9LS monitor

1.Win2000
2.GeForce2 MX/MX400
3.23.11 driver
4.DirectX 8.0 from the Europa CD
5.265Ram
6.800 Athelon
7.EU1 is still on the system alongside EU2, thi sproblem is only in EU2
8.One pissed user:D

Viper, anyone please help.

I also had a similar problem with Civ3, but the first patch allowed me to fix this by adding the line 'Refresh=60' into the settings file. The only difference is that Civ3 had this problem from the begginning while EU2 suddenly developed it after working fine.

There are no obvious to me solutions. Restarting doesn't help, and I have changed nothing on my system before this problem appeared.

Okay people I can smell you passing through my thread, you will answer:D

I can only suggest it is probably the directx video drivers. Try running dxdiag and see if any problems are revealed. Check with MS for Dx updates.

Because it is empty and I want to play today. If I get a solution feel free to edit this thread and move it there.

edit: why can't you help?

Here is what I have done so far:
1.renstalled directx 8.0a from another game
2.uninstalled 23.11 and tried the 21.81win2k/xp
3.no go
4.unistalled 21.81win2k/xp and tried 21.81nt
5.no go so I went back to 23.11
6.did the following regedit:
http://efceleron.hypermart.net/articles/nvidia_fix/
7.still no go the screen wobles due to a high refresh rate

p.s. even if you can't help at least tell me how to spell wobles/wobbles/wobbels?

You are probably going to get pissed, but just calm down and remember that you can always delete one of the two threads:D

No need. Already done :).

Wobbles. The word is wobbles. It is clear from what you see and the info at that URL that your problem is due to the video card and/or the driver. Again I suggest running dxdiag and see what it tells you. See if you can borrow another type of video card and try that to prove it to yourself.

I did run dxdiag before and after I reinstalled directx. The video card is fine though it is the driver that's bad.:p But maybe there is a way to force EU2 to use a low refresh rate, this was the solution to my Civ3 problem. It was fixed in the patch for Civ3, they allowed you to add a line to the settings file that forced the game to use the rate you want. I am sure EU2 can also be fixed.

Ok update, I followed the instructions on the Running Problem Thread
1.Thorough Uninstall, deleted the Temp content and used a regcleaner program.
2.Did the same for EU1 that was on my hard drive.
3.Uninstall 23.11 again:rolleyes:
3.Reinstall 23.11
4.Reinstall EU2
5.no go ****!

I didn't do the defrag, common give me a break how is defrag going to solve a video card problem. I would understand if EU2 wouldn't run at all, but it does, it just wobbles:D

One more thing I can try. Someone who know, probably Patric, can you tell me how the game determines which frequancy it will use and if it can be manually edited. I'll try if it is possible. Also I don't care about the movies anymore I already seen them many times, so I guess if it will help I can delete them.

I monitor this forum multiple times a day, and had you posted here last night, I would have answered you right away... Now, you're moved here anyway, so no point posting elsewhere ;)

Did you do a clean uninstall of your nvidia drivers? (meaning, did you use the detonator destroyer link someone gave you in another thread?)

What is the resolution you run EU 2 at (800x600 or 1024x768)?

Try to lower the resolution to 800x600 both on the game and on the desktop and set the refresh rate to the minimum you can set it. Try running the game and see if you experience problems. If you don't, go back to your adapter properties and increase the refresh rate, and repeat this until the point it doesn't work anymore.

Reduce the hardware accelaration for your video card (control panel, system, performance, graphics). Try running it that way with a problematic refresh rate and if it works, increase the acceleration by one and repeat until you are at the problematic level.

I see no point in helping people that wont help themselves by posting in the correct forum. Your theory didnt work either - you got no help in the forum you originally posted it in. Had you posted in the correct forum it would have got Support attention sooner.

Okay here come the rebutals.
1.I posted around 10pm or so, thats around 1am viper time, I know you are dedicated man, but not THAT dedicated:D
2.I did use the CleanReg utility that Dudmont gave me on all the uninstalls.
3.I followed the RunProblems thread instructions, minus the defrag
4.I put EU2 out of my mind for a day
5.I come home hit get with a sudden brilliant idea and unistall 23.11 drivers, dig up my original install nVidia cd and install drivers version 5.12 or somenthing. At least that's the version dxdiag sais it is, maybe it has a different name, because the disc can't be more than 2 years old and I doubt nVidia went from 5.xx to 23.xx in two years.
6.EU2 works, Civ3 works, Starcraft works(hides his head in shame):D
7.The only thing that doesn't work is StarTrk Dominion Wars, if any of you ever came acress that peace of ****, you know that is not much of s loss.
8.Since the problem has been solved feel free to disect this thread getting rid of the dum parts and keep it just in case someone has this problem again. Afterall there are some people out there who actually do a search before posting a problem.

----
Here is what I think happened.
My monitor is cheap, 17inches for $170 bucks, so it can't display refresh rates above 75hertz. Any game that tryes to force it to do better is unplayable for me. Civ3 tried untill I manually edited the drivers and Firaxis later released a patch.
Plus the only reason I upgraded my drivers form the original version was that Dominion Wars game that wouldn't display colors corectly.

The End of my saga!

The End of my saga!

Sometimes I come around this time. :) In this particular case, I think I came to see here just before that, around 12:00, 12:30.

Still, had you posted here, and had I missed it the night, I would have catched it in the morning, around 5-6am for you :)

Take a look here:

Download and try 12.41 drivers. They are better than your 5.x release.

And upgrade your monitor :D I can get a very good 17" monitor (Samsung Syncmaster) for 270$ CAN (about 100$ less in US$) :)

I don't understand what that screen sais. It refers to TNT and TNT2 cards I have GeForce 2 MX, will they still work for me?

I just bough this damn thing, remember me asking if my monitor was broken, well I got a knew one a month and a half ago. As you can imagine I don't have a lot of money to spend on computers:(

right click any where on your screen, go properties, settings, advanced, then adapter, what does it say for the refresh rate?

Unfortinatly, it doen't say anything about the refresh rate at all. You are probably thinking about the win9x, I am using 2000. But that's okay:)

Nvidia drivers work on all of their cards, except for the high end Quadro wich may require specific drivers.

The only thing is that you'll lose some features like increase speed, etc.
