I'm not really much of a modder, but here is a little minimod I made a while ago mainly for my own games and I thought I'd share it with the forums.
Ever been stuck with an incompetent heir? Look no further.
Features:
Installation - nothing new here:
As far as I know, succession mechanics are hardcoded, but I worked around it by adding decisions for the ruler to abdicate in favour of either the legal heir or a character of the player's choosing. Choosing an heir is done by granting a 'preferred heir' title to that character. Abdicating in favour of the appointed heir will also cause stability loss and a fairly hefty loyalty drop in the 'legal' heir. Adoptive succession was prevalent in the later days of the Roman Empire, so it can't be that unrealistic a concept for this time period.
Suggestions/Ideas/Bug reports/Feedback welcome! I'm open to adding some more features in the future.
Feel free to use this in your own mods if you want.

Features:
- Monarchs can now abdicate through the country decisions menu.
- You can appoint an heir of your own choosing by using the 'preferred heir' title, and then abdicate to get them on the throne. (Succession is hardcoded so if the ruler dies the 'legal' heir will still assume power)
- It's also possible to revoke the 'Preferred Heir' title through the decisions menu.
Installation - nothing new here:
- Unzip to Europa Universalis - Rome\mod
- Open Launcher - pick 'Regency Minimod' from the drop down menu.
