Playing as one of the British tribes in the Reign of the Ancients mod, I get the mission early on to reach 50 gold. I'm on 20 gold after a previous mission to increase military strength, and only making 0.1 or so gold per month with three trade routes, the increased trade income invocation and my navy/military maintenance set to the minimum. It's going to take a very long time, during which I won't have much else to do; I have no Casus Belli, and even if I risked the stability drop, my neighbours somehow have more soldiers, and way more ships than I.

Is there a way to get ahead? It feels like I'll just be staring at the screen on maximum speed for a few hours.

Attack someone further away, with a different religion than you so there's no stab hit? Maybe vassalize Emporion or Massalia, that way you get income and civilization at the same time.

Good point, are there any opm tribes within reasonable striking distance from you? I don't know the northern part of the map well enough to suggest anyone, but if you could find someone with the Animist religion you would also avoid the stab hit. Also, what is your national idea? If you could switch to one that makes you more profitable it might be worth the stab hit...

That doesn't really solve the problem of being unlikely of winning if they're defending, causing me to have to spend more money. As for the national idea, I could, but is there any consequence for setting a different category of national idea than my slot type? Can I even do that? It appears that I can (they are lit up), but the box is preceded by a military symbol, as if that's what I should opt for.
