REIGN OF THE SULTANS
turav.gif

This AAR is for the Ottoman Empire. It is played in the GC in normal mode. I will try to play the game from a more “Sultan point of view” and there fore enforce some kind of restrictions/goals for every Sultan that comes along. I wont make this a narrative one, Im satisfied just to write down the basics... I dont think I will play the whole 300 years, but we´ll see how far the story will go...

The Reign of Bayezid II

bay2.gif
Bayezid II siezed power from his brother in 1481 , after their fathers death, by the help of the fearfull janissaries. His brother fled to Rhodos where he was imprisoned by the Knights of St John. Rumours of the history tell us that Bayezid payed the Knights of St John an annual sum in gold, for their “hospitality” against his brother. One of Bayezid worst nightmaers was that his brother would return and claim the throne. Bayezid went to history as a promoter of economical growht and for enforcing the law. He also tried to maintain good relations to the christians in the west, just so that he may bee free to attack the hated Mamelukes.

In game:

During the reign of Bayezid I will...

Only DoW with a proper CB, and never claim none core provinces in peace settlements.

Promote a bailiff in every Ottoman province.

Never DoW the Knights of St John

Fight, atleast, one war against the Mamelukes.

Bayezid sat on his throne listening to his Vizier Ishak Pasha. “Great Sultan, we can never trust them. It is better to strike now, at once, while they dont have any allies, then wait until they decides the time and the place. You have over 100.000 men, prepared to obey every command from you, Great one.” His trusted Vizier said.

“Very well then. I have listened to your advises before and will do it even this time. Tell the armies to begin marsching. Marsch against Hungary” The Sultan replied.

So in January 1, 1492, Turkey declares war on Hungary.

All the might of the Ottomans was focused on Hungary, a battle occured in Serbia with 50.000 turks against 60.000 Hungarians.General Hadim Sinam led the turkish forces to victory. After this destructive blow against the Hungarians, their entire territory was opened infront of the turkish armies. In matter of a year the entire Hungary was controlled by the brave forces of the Ottomans. The last stronghold was in Carpatia and when their garrison was defeated, no resistance remained. The King of Hungary was defeated and Hungary was annexed.

In Pest the Sultan meet with one of his Generals, Hadim Sinam.

“I am impressed General, awhole Kingdom laid under my feet in mater of a year. This must surely be one of Allahs miracles.” The Sultan said. “Yes, Great Sultan.” “So tell me General in what condition are the troops?” “Sultan, we have had very little causalties and there numbers are still above 100.000. There seems to be no end of what they can accomplish” Hadim replied. “No end of what they can accomplished you say... Very well then. To the west the Archdutchy of Asutria lies. The Archduke himself has send me threatening and insulting letters, claiming he should be the rightful ruler of Hungary. This is absurd, yes I know, but shall we tolerate such insults. No I dont think so. Prepare the army to marsch again. We are only a few days from Austria borders. We will teach him to be more “friendly” in his tone in the future...”

And so the armies of the Ottomans continued to marsch west.. against Austria...

How does annexing Hungary and attacking Austria fit with this?

Sounds pretty good even though you are my(Byzantium) worst enemy  :D . Wow, annexing Hungary in a year. Amazing. Unfortunately, I don't play the game as well as I write about playing it :p . Keep writing :D

Yes, Yochurt, assaults on A&H seem to contradict your original intentions.
Honest that you admit both your intentions and your game though.

Yup... thats true but I only restricted myself by not declaring war without a CB and Turkey has CB on both Hungary and Austria. The real Bayezid was more concern than I abaout the relations to the christians, maybe I should have stated another condition: never DoW christian nations, but I never thought to play it entire according the history :) I also made the Vizier convince Bayezid to make him more peace loving, then I play the Turks... and for Austria... well he sended some insulting letters :)

Thats correct. When writing my conditions down I didnt thought of attacking Hungary, but when I started the game I remind my self of that I never have begun playing as the Turks, attacking Hungary at once... so I made the Vizer convince Bayezid to launch an assault... it was so succesfull so I figured Austria could taste a bit of it to... :)

Edit: A bad thing though is that this may screw up my other goals for Bayezid...

Austria had no allies and was a easy target. After destroying almost their entire army in a battle at Odenburg. The Ottoman forces took controll of most of Austria. The Archduke pledged for peace in August 1494, offering Pressburg, Odenburg and Carniola. Bayezid accepted, not because he had to, but becasue he had other plans for his glorius soldiers. Bayezid had never liked the Mamelukes and every day that continued with them ruling Egypt, was a day of sadness for him. He had already made some diplomatic moves and invited Nubia into an alliance for this purpose.

The Ottoman armies marsched all the way to Asia Minor, waiting at the borders to the Mameluke Sultanate. When they all had arrived, Bayezid dispatched a rider to Cairo, with a official decleration of war. The Ottoman forces crossed the borders in November 1494 and so did the Nubians. As the Mamelukes was allied to Venice, Bayezid had left three armies close to the Venetian borders. Upon the war decleration, Venice aided the Mamelukes and the Ottoman armies invaded their lands to...

The first wave of invaders into the territory of the Mamelukes was a failure. The Mamelukes crushed our armies and only by recruiting new soldiers we could slowly press the Mamelukes backwards. Our allies, the Nubians, was also usefull, as the Mamelukes forced to fight at two fronts, sending their huge army forth and back, from Nubi to Syria and back again, thus their endless battles took they share on them to. Or armies bordering Venice quikly laid siege upon three coastal provinces who belonged to Venice.

The war continued, against the Mamelukes, our forced took controll of province after province. Against Venice the battles rage the border areas. An Venetian army had pressed our armies backward and reinforcments was send to the area in order to press them back again. The war continued for a longer time then Bayezid had estimated. He was determined not to give any provinces away to Venice, rather he would like to gain some and as for the Mamelukes he wished them destroyed. In August 1503 an alliance led by Austria declared war upon us. Once again large reinforcments was needed to press them back, drawing resources from the Egyptian arena. Two months later Persia declared war to, making the Sultanate find it self in a rather tricky situation.

By making an surgery assault right into the heart of Austria, Vienna, their capital fell and a white peace with the alliance was negotiated. Then the armies marsched against Persia, recaptured Syria, fought a few battles and invaded Persia. Persia soon offered Kurdistan for peace and Bayezid accepted. Now the Ottoman forces could focus on their main goals again, but this time both Venice and the Mamelukes had recaptured some of their former lost provinces.

You was lucky there Yoghurt:D
Or maybe it was all some secret plan of yours;)

O, by the way I love your pictures:D :D :D :D :) :D :)

After some fiercefull battles and time consuming sieges the whole territory of the Mamelukes was under Ottoman controll. The Mamelukes was annexed, except for Cataract who Nubia aquired. As for Venice a sum of 250.000 gold coins was paid to enable a peae with them. The Venetian had proven to be much more furius then their neighbours and their mountaineus provinces was hard to conquer. Never the less, Bayezid II, was satisfied with the destruction of the Mamelukes. Now one thing remained for him... The enforcement of controll and lawliness in his territory. The remaining time of his reign he promoted several bailiffs. Upon his death in 1512 only a few provinces in former Hungary hadent been touched by his reforms.

Note: I claim to have succed in never declare war without a proper CB and never have claimed a none core province in a peace settlement. I also fought, at least, one war against the Mamelukes. A very succesfull one to. And never DoWed the Knight of St John (Not a hard one). Unfortunally I failed in promoting a bailiff in every province.

The reign of Selim I

selim1.gif
Selim I was a tall and a strong man. He was very well educated. Selim was very much interested in science and theology beside the governmental issues. Selim was a brilliant rider and a successful fencer. He never liked vanity, never spent the Empire’s money. During his reign, the treasury was completely full. He sealed the treasury and bequeathed as fallow; “If any of my successors could fill the treasury as much as I did, would use his own seal, otherwise they all will use my seal”. This will was kept by Selim’s successors, as none of the Sultans came after him, could have been filled the treasury as much as he did, his seal was used to lock the treasury for centuries. He was the one who destroyed the Mamelukes. He also captured the Holy City of Mecca and was the first Ottoman Sultan who had the title Caliph as well. He died of cancer.

In game: I let you guys come up with a 3-4 proposals so I edit this one later on :) He dont have much time though...

Edit: Edited after recieved Lord E:s proposals.
Edit 2: Edited after recieved Zalmans proposals.

Annex Wallachia and Moldovia.
Dont take any loans.
Conquer Mecca.
Conquer at least one provicne from Venice.

This shold be enough... Selim only rules a few years.

Yoghurt, your game is going extremely well! I don't know if its luck or skill but I hope that the Turkey in my Byzantium game doesn't go as insane as you have anytime soon :D ;) . Anyway, Those pesky Romanian provinces in the middle of your vast empire are starting to annoy me and probably you as well. I suggest you take them over, either diplomatically or militarily. It shouldn't be too much work and you have an amazingly large number of bb points already so I don't think those will matter much :).

I´ll edit the goals a bit then :)

Impressing performance indeed!

I'd say: head east, get those rich persian provinces!

Yes, it should suit Selim to do so as he, as far as I know, was the one who battled the persians and ended their expansion westwards, but I think Selim already have enough goals for his short reign. I´ll have to include this one for the next Sultan :)
