Relative sold into slavery

So I'm playing as a targ, and my Son got captured in a battle and sold into slavery. Any idea how to get him back? I can't go to war, cos his owner is too far away on the diplomatic front, nor can I rescue him because nobody likes me. Suggestions?

I have dragons already, as does my enslaved son (his egg hatched after he was sold). I also only have 1000 troops max to my name. I'm a cadet branch of the main line, cos that's more interesting.

Conquer your way closer (mercenaries cover a lot of problems), then go for it.

If he becomes a dragon rider he may possibly escape on his own accord...
