The ninth of November is an important date in German history.
It is the day at which one revolution ended, one revolution was tried (and failed... for now), the next try of the same revolution showed (again) its ugly face and another revolution started. All in the same century.
And with this it is a date that connects all modern German nations, starting with Imperial Germany.

Since today is the ninth of november I thought I just post these here...

09.11.1918
Proclamation of the republic
Philipp Scheidemann proclaims the German Republic (later known as Weimar Republic). The Kaiserreich has ended.

The Beer Hall Putsch (Hitlerputsch)
Hitler and the Nazi party tried and failed a coup d'état. Hitler was trialed and imprisoned for high treason for 5 years and got released in 1924 after only nine months.

Kristallnacht (Reichsprogromnacht)
The SA and others damaged or destroyed buildings with Jewish property (shops, offices, hospitals, synagogues etc).

Fall of the Berlin Wall (Mauerfall)
The Berlin Wall that divided Germany for almost 40 years was opened so that residents of the GDR could travel freely into western Germany.
Over the next weeks the wall was dismantled step by step.

/edit: I'd like to post more information and links to these events, but there are just too many swastikas... And only giving more information about two of these events would be like denying the other two ever happened. Which is something I most definetly don't want to.

Fascinating. I knew the individual acts, and watched as the Berlin Wall fell. But never put the common date between them.

Learn something new every day!:)

Since it was decided that the third of october is our national holiday instead of ninth of november (due to the last of the mentioned events) I'm doing the same as on every other monday...
The reason why the decision went against the ninth of november as a national holiday were besically events 2 and 3. So they took the date on which the GDR officially ceased to exist instead.

/Edit: And yes, it's today. But that fact I already mentioned in the OP ;)
