Hello i don't know much about it, but i heard that more country tags slows the game down even when they are not in use, so why not just remove them completely?

I could be totally wrong about this, if i am please reply and explain :p

Edit: an example could be the York tag.

They can be better served as being converted into other tags than outright removing them.

But can they be removed if there is no more countries to be added?

Removing them is not really an option as that breaks old savegames. We are however recycling them.

Why didn't you remove them with 1.12 since that broke save games anyway? There will probably be least one future large patch that will break save games, so I'm sure there will be another opportunity at some point. It seems better to remove them than have awkward situations like YOR being the tag for Florence.

What with 'out-of-date' TAGs eg. Etruria?
She can be based on mechanism 'Client-State' not as a normal country.
And the same is true for Westphalia, which also represents the napoleonic client state. Paradox should have a look at this and remove redundant tags. The fewer the better.

After certain bookmarks these historical countries gain cores or can be released from states in their respective provinces.

The tags serve a purpose, and it adds a level of historicity to the game. Removing them really doesn't give a lot in return for the work that is put in.

Yes but I do not believe many would mourn the loss of Etruria and Westphalia. In any case, some tags do not even fit into your statement, including York and Lancaster. Paradox has already had multiple opportunities to remove these tags and yet they remain. I think they probably just forgot about them.

Scotland and France often release York and Lancaster, as well as Cornwall and Wales, to weaken England.

Wouldn't be possible if these historical tags didn't exist.

As far as I know current unused tags are

York, Lancaster -> obscolete

only late bookmark:
Etruria, Zhunghar, Tonkin, Annam, Champassak, Luang Pravang, Vientiane, Muang Phuang

plus like 10 japanese daimyos, few Indonesian spawn tags, maybe simerhing arabian.

York and Lancaster cant be released unless you have a mod.

I would leave some of those, especially some Japanese daimyos, just for releasables/revolters in the region

Under current rules those Daimyos can never appear, so they will never be releasables/revolters.

Let us not forget about Revolutionary France, which serves no purpose anymore, with the new revolution mechanic.

The problem with Westphalia is that it has two tags, one of them being the unused WEZ, as does Danzig, which has both DNZ and DZG.

Also, York and Lancaster don't have cores now, so they are actually obsolete tags.

There is only one tag for Danzig (DNZ) and one for Westphalia (WES). There aren't any plans to remove either country.

There are no DZG or WEZ tags in 00_countries.txt
