Playing as England and beating the French in a long war i don't control any of their provinces .I offer a peace settlement subject to them paying 1000 Ducats they agree and we have peace all round. But they don't pay a penny.I immediately want to have a go back to teach them a lesson only to be told that to declare war would reduce my stability by 7 points ....this i feel is unfair and perhaps should be changed in a patch to allow for a nation to declare war straight away without penalies effecting your stability in circs where the war is justified where the terms of a peace treaty are not followed by the looser.
I had to wait for 5 years before i could get them back-this time i held out for a province no point in taking the Ducats where they can't be trusted.

Due to major game problems with forcing AI nations to take loans to pay reparations, they only give money that they actually have in the bank. Hopefully in 1.08 or a future patch they will tell you how much that actually is before you agree to peace. The best thing in the meantime is to force peace in early January before they can spend their annual income.

A hint: offer peace in Jan 1st. Then they have just recived their yearly income and probably will have some gc to spare. You probably will get at least 250gc from a major nation.

Thanks for the suggestions however I think it is good that France didn't pay up as it is realistic I just feel that if a nation doesn't abide by the terms of a treaty the gloves should be off and your stability shouldn't be penalized if you decide to go after the miscreant again as soon as the cash doesn't hit the bank.A nation shouldn't be able to enter into an agreement it can't fulfill without being punished...it should count as an immediate Casus Belli.

I agree that you shouldn't be able to demand more money than the AI has, since they aren't able to pay it. But you can solve this by never asking for more than 250 ducats (or maybe 500 at the beginning of the year) and using the rest of your stars for provinces.

The difficulty is when you win badboy wars. If you are trying to let your reputation subside from the white heat of armageddon taking provinces is the last thing you want to do. It is hard to always call for a one-star peace when you have six stars available :)

I'm having some of the same diffaculty, early in GC yet only bout 1530 or so and France tried for the 2nd time to take a bite out of my English hide. I'm sitting on top of Paris and three other French provices waiting for Jan 1st to roll around a 3rd time, the first two times I only asked for 250d and didn't get a dime... I know they can't be that poor cause they're still listed high up on the Archive 'wealth' list... not really sure what's up with them, may just have to settle for a provice or two but would rather have the loot...

Yeah, the game is rather accurate in that aspect, alot of European powers made war against China simply to extort war reparations(and to protect narcartic smugglers). But shouldn't you get hit by huge inflation when you bring in a that much cold hard cash into circulation?

Why is it that as a human player, I can only ask the AI for reparations in 250d increments, yet I get pop up messages all the time that 'Russia made peace with their former enemy the Khanates. Khantates pay 63d in reparations to Russia'

Why dont humans get that option???

It works just the same way. Russia Ai asks for 250+ but since Khanates only got 63 D ...

You do, when the AI offers you a peace involving money and you only have less then 250 D. If you only have 2 D the AI will only ask for 2 D.
