Ok, I read the bit about loans in the manual which says after 5 years a national loan becomes due, and you have the choice to repay or renue. Well I can't find the option to pay any of my three loans off. After 5 years, they just auto-renue for another crippling 5 years. I read the FAQ too, and couldn't find anything on it. Thanks in advance.

In the Options menu, you can configure the pop-up messages and how they appear in the game. One of them if for repaying loans. You can set it to pop up when it's time to repay/renew.
There's also a small icon that appears briefly in the upper right corner of the main screen (like those for peace offers, etc.). It's easy to miss if you have other things going on. I prefer the pop-up menu.
