Hello:

I have started playing EU2 a few weeks ago and have been experiencing some problems I have not noticed mentioned on other threads. First of all, my system: Pentium III 600 MHz, 128 RAM 133MHz SDRAM, 32 MB nVidia TNT 2 pro AGP video card, and Soundblaster run on Windows 98.

First, the game crashes all the time. I play the GC and it seems like every 10-20 years it just freezes without warning and kicks me to the Desktop. I definately get out of all other programs, as I have already seen mentioned on other threads. So EU2 is always the only thing running.

Now here is the weird part: I can never boot EU2 straight away after rebooting my computer, it always gets hung up loading the graphics and I get a blue screen with error messages. What I have to do is load the original EU, exit out and then load EU2. It is literally the only way I can play EU2!! Its really bizarre, am I the only one that has to do this?

Just thought I'd see if anyone else has that same problem or some suggestions for me...

thanks, James

I'd tend to think your blue screen problem is a corrupted video driver.

I'll have you uninstall your video drivers and install the latest ones.

First, download the latest drivers for your card here These are version 21.81 and are the ones you should use for your TNT2 (21.83 might not work).

Then, go to this site, download the software called Detonator Destroyer and follow the instructions provided on their web site (you might want to print the page).

Once done, run scandisk and defrag, reboot, run the game, come back here to report on how it goes (the Blue screen as well as the crash every 10-20 years).

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to get at this within a couple of days (or by the weekend anyways) and let you know.

I'll be waiting :)

Hello Viper:

WOW!! What a difference!! I was able to do everything except the Detonator Destroyer (don't have anything to unzip the file with). However, between the new driver and/or defragmenting my hard drive (that took almost 11/2 hours), everything seems very good. Was able to play 30 years with no problems so far. I can even have AOL on at the same time and it doesn't seem to upset EU2!!

I am also able to reboot with EU2 right off the bat, instead of having to do EU first (that was just plain weird). My whole system just seems a lot more stable.

I have to warn you, though, you aren't very popular with my wife. At least when the game was crashing all the time I would get frustrated and shelve it for a few days. Not anymore!!

:)

Thanks a lot!

If that's the only downside, I'll be happy to live with it :D

If you need something to unzip, go to www.download.com and search for a freeware app that will unly unzip files. It's in disk utilites IIRC. Should do the trick in case you need it in the future.
