I've been playing HOI for quite some time and haven't had any serious problems. Then I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled windows and HOI. HOI still worked fine but today when I started it a CTD occured during "initializing graphics", tried again and same thing happened. Then i reinstalled HOI again and it worked fine, but when I reopened HOI a CTD occured at "initializing graphics" again.

I ran under 1.06 patch and had CORE 0.82 installed
 
Sounds like you have not updated one of your drivers or your windows.

Try renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back, that should solve the error you get.
