Hi,

I've noticed over several games that, eventually, I just stop getting inventions. This was covered in an old bug thread here:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118960

But it was marked WaD because I think somebody posted who had negative prestige and the whole thing got written off.

I now have a save game where I can reproduce this behavior. If you load the save game (@1902, USA) and look at the tech tree, -none- of the techs trigger ANY inventions. It just says 'allows' but no 'triggers,' for any tech.

Start a new GC, and the triggers are all there.

I've only played three games from start to finish -- two as USA (1.00 and 1.02) and one as Prussia (1.01). All three games were in the top three and had positive prestige the whole time. In the first US game, I never even got electricity. In the second game, I got airplanes and electricity but no tanks (factories but not brigades). I also never got HQ attachments (only recently learned they exist!) In this most recent US game, I got Dreadnaughts in 1895, reloaded it from about a year prior to do a couple things differently, and then never got anything again.

I can send the savegame somewhere, or upload it, as they're pretty big...

Not getting inventions is the complaint I believe - which is important as the inventions are random. Send the save zipped or rar'd to victoria dot bugs at btinternet dot com.

just to add something here someone said that negative prestige and inventions, well was playing around and did a few declarations of war and was running a -150 prestige, now with what i've seen posted in here i shouldn't be getting inventions etc from the techs that i researched, but i was getting some and from what i could tell i wasn't getting them at a slower rate than when i have a prestige in the 1500+ range.

I have suffered of having the invention but not getting the unit derived from it (HQ, Engineer, Tank).

For instance, I have lots of tanks in my parkway and none of them could fit in my units...

I just noticed this happening in my current game too. I believe it may stem from a crash I had while saving...the history at the end of the save game is munged, and is missing events prior to about 1885. However, the portion of the file under the heading "eyr" which is just before the history and just after the last country is still in place, so I'm not sure how the missing parts of the history could affect things.

I'm in 1912, have all techs researched apart from some culture techs, have all the factories I need and I still can't build inf. divs. with tank brigades and dreadnoughts! Am I missing something, or is this the bug you guys are talking about?

Tanks and Dreadnoughts are dependent on inventions. I see them both in about half the games I play and one of them in 75%. I'm not sure this is a bug but an easy fix would be to bring the death date for each invention forward by some years. This would make the inventions more likely in the end game.

I just finished a game with similar problems. Starting as 1836 Spain, I researched culture heavily at first and traded for naval tech in the 1890's. But although I had every level of every tech researched by 1905, I could never build a "modern" ship except submarines. Never got CL's, CA's, BB's, or DN's. For the last 15 years I had no research at all possible (all 25's) but I never was able to build a capital ship. I was at #1 presige from about 1900 forwards and #1 industry from 1905 forwards and I (obviously) had an extremely robust, diversified economy. It was a little frustrating to be at war with Britain in 1915 and have nothing but MW's and SS's to fight with.

I wasn't able to build electric gear factories; light bulbs never triggered. However, autos and tank factories DID trigger. I didn't try to build tank divisions, so I can't tell you if those triggered or not.

Possibly this is related to a bad save- at one point during an autosave there was a crash. It happened during a philipine insurrection, and when I reloaded, the rebels had simply vanished even though I was still fighting them during the autosave. (I was closely watching the rebel combat, so I was surprised by the vanishing act.) Therefore, I know there was a buggy save due to crash and incomplete reload. As I recall, the philipine insurrection happened roughly as I was trading for naval techs. So maybe the hint above that it is connected to a buggy save is correct.

(btw, using 1.03 patch of course.)
