The 7 sliders can easily be replaced with the treasury slider only and a scroll menu which would let the player choose which technology to pursue. When reaching new tech level a popup would allow to change the technology.
In addition there could be 3 checkboxes - "prioritise stability", "avoid deficit" and "mint to the maximum with 0 inflation".
These tools would allow recreate virtually all of the effective slider settings with far less micromanagement.
On a side note - when researching a too advanced tech the penalty should be applied to investment rather than tech cost to avoid micromanagement.

Wouldn't that mean a lot more micromanagement in stead? I usually mint at a recoverable rate, with a locked slider. Put technologies at some relatively interesting position and only force all into stab when really down, so it is eminently ignorable already.

Anyway, the inflation mechanism will be different in EU4 if I remember correctly so the system will already work differently from the start.

The optimal strategy is almost always to invest in only one tech. The way I propose it you wouldn't need to juggle the sliders at all, only choose the tech area you wish to develop from time to time, a bit like in Civ. Anyway, I hope they won't screw the economic system changing the inflation mechanism.

I'm also worried that the economy/research system will be simplified, less strategic in choices and screwed. The exit of minting could be an omen, but I trust Johan to beat the team up if they go too crazy on the streamlining so the game ends up with only an empty shell of it's former glory.

To the thread starter. Why would you like less strategical choice in the tech investment and economy system? You really find that elegant system we have too much micro? Some people seem to think all micro is bad. A strategy game needs some microing, if not we could rather read a book or watch a documentary instead of playing a game.

I agree, having the sliders like they are is just a trap for new players. To make the game more accessable you should remove that kind of trap in the interface, and instead just give the options which should be used (preferably with less micromanagement).

Alternativly they could penalise going from 100% stability research to 100% trade research to 100% land tech research all in the same year.

i like the sliders as they now are, i usually research all the techs at the same time, only if i really want something i move the sliders. and i change the mint slider all the time if i need more money for building stuff.

I really like to research many items at the same time, this is one of the moust annoing things in sots and civ like games.

true. is there a thread already for that? minting should only be related to the quantity of silver/gold that you have. it doesn´t make sense that you mint when you dont have the raw material.
I would not completely discard the idea in this thread though. some quick buttons to tweak the sliders could be nice. whatever is slidable in the new system.
