I'm not sure if this is really WAD or not, but when a courtier decides to retire (for whatever reason), it turns out they never really retire.

They go to the None court for a few days, then they to someone elses court, where they are sometimes put to work.

Is this supposed to happen upon retirement?

Yes, more or less. Otherwise I would have to kill them.

They really "retire" from the player's court, as this event cannot happen to the AI.

The only reason you might not want them to appear dead, is so that they can still have children, but that's hardly likely if they're too frail to be an advisor.

Its not that they retire, they just retire from their current postion. Hasn't anyone ever heard of retiring from one job to work at another?
Except that, if I remember correctly, some "courtiers retire" events mention that they are going to monastaries and have poor health, implying they are out of work for good. But they just go to another court, sometimes going to work for the ruler.

Also, no courtier in a position has ever retired, so it affects only unemployed folks. This indicates to me that it is a way to rotate older courtiers out of the player's court and give them to the AI.

I'm not really worried about game balance on this issue, it's just odd the way the events are worded, as it implies the courtiers in question are going away for good, instead of just moving somewhere else to get a new job.

To be honest the idea behind the event was to remove old "useless" courtiers from the player's court.

If they retire to an AI court which already has a load of courtiers, they would probably never be used and the player wouldn't have notice.

If they retire to an AI court with very few courtiers, that would help the AI a little bit. And in this case, yeah the text read a bit odd.

The point was really to remove old useless courtier from the player's court, but without actually killing them, because otherwise, I found it even weirder. Text would say "courtier is retiring" and command on the button would say "X dies".

Ah, this would be the Kevorkian 401k Plan for Courtiers.

I see your point, Cat Lord. I can only suggest a change to the wording so that it says "X retires to another court".
