hi

great tech forum you got here, although i ve not found a solution to my problem... (maybe overlooked?) anyway here goes:

had game installed with 1.2 and some custom sprites, and I was on my way for some world conquest. of course this didn't work with 1.3 so man. uninstalled en reinstalled, but ..

everytime i start a scenario or even try to change options I get an error report and return to dektop. music keeps playing though...

reinstalled couple of times, tried 1.0 and1.3, followed 5 steps mentioned somewhere else, all to no avail.

I can tell this is getting pretty frustrating...

any advice? someone got an idea?

thx

Yes the error report would be helpful. :)
Also make sure you completely remove any mods you had.

wow that was fast

yes having the same problem with 1.0 (error reported furhter on was generated trying to launch scenario in 1.0) and the custom sprites have completely been removed (along with the rest of the game folders during man.unist.)

error report (hope this is what you meant) :

AppName: hoi2.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

hope this helps

Unfortunately, not much.

The only thing you can deduce from this is that the system encountered an error in one of the device drivers. Most likely the video driver, given the description in your initial post.

Try a new uninstall and reinstall. This is howto

You have tried Castellons advice?

1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game. 2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back 3) Set the color depth to 16BIT 4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock. 5) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

If Hoi2 still is not working, try this

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic: Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.
Good luck :)

Er um, what the guy he quoted said. :)

hi

apparently, I have a problem with direct x (which I found by running dxdiag, thx)

but I can't find how to unistal direct x. Just installing the latest version doenst seem to fix the poblem. Anyone know how you do this.

thx in advance

Alas, DirectX is not designed to be uninstallable. Although some people do have managed to get it downgraded by heavily editing the registry, this is not a supported action by Microsoft.

I'm afraid that, if all else fails, you should reinstall Windows. That's unfortunately the only supported way to be able to install a fresh DirectX.

One other trick you might try short of reinstalling Windows is to remove the device drivers for both your video and your sound card. Remove the video driver by picking the standard VGA PCI driver from manufacturer Microsoft. Reboot the system and run dxsetup. Reboot again. Now reinstall your regular video and sound drivers. Reboot the system and run dxsetup again.

If you're lucky, the problem will have fixed itself. If not, then reinstalling Windows will be your only alternative.

well,

I found some programs which are supposed to unistal direct x. None of them worked offcourse and one even managed to mess up my system even more;

So do not try such programs ...

Now I am formating my system and i expect to be able to play with a fresh instal of windows ( if not i ll start a new thread...)

anyway thanks a lot for your effort guys

Good luck.
