Now perhaps I'm the only one who pissed and moaned about this in the original CK BUT, would it be too much to ask for a possible family tree system to track your dynasty? Yes the card system works well to keep track of traits, stats, courtiers, friends and rivals (And in some cases successors) but I think succession and claimants could be alot more clear with an option family tree button. Just a couple lines connecting a bunch of portraits. MAybe some color coding to mark line of succession?

Thoughts?

Totally agree and I think it's simple enough to do , well IMHO. CK had DNA tags so it kept all the information required, all that was needed to do was put it together. Rome had a sort of family tree and there was an external mod for CK that did this as well, less the pictures.

It would be great though to look back on it 150+ years into the game to see just how large it is, it would also help connect the player more personally with his/her dynasty.

Make it clickable as well, so for example, you could click on your daughter-law and trace her family tree, and so on and so on.

The only problems I have with 'Family Tree Programs' is unless you are only interested in your Direct Ancestry (2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-etc), any detailed Family Tree that shows Both downward and branching members quickly becomes a Mass of inter-connected lines and font that is too small to even see when you want to look at anything more than just a few members.

What with the propensity of the AI (and Human controlled) marrying (and re-marrying) again and again, it just gets too visually confusing.

On the flip side, I wouldn't mind a simplified version, only showing Paternal ancestry or even a visual diagram showing someone's relation to me in a simple line drawing with names (portraits not that important as I probably wouldn't recognize anyone by their face, just their Dynasty name). But, to me it wouldn't be that vital of a part of the game, just something that adds 'flavor' for certain occasions/players.

I would like to have a button say next to the player's picture that opens up a window to see the family tree by name only. Maybe link it so you could then click on the name and see the guys traits.

Agreed. A family tree would be nice...

I would be all for it. To deal with the size of it, perhaps it can be confined to your direct line and up to it's 1st or 2nd cousins only. Therefore it's more of a top to bottom, instead of a really wide family tree.

There should also be a part of the ledger that shows all of the living characters with your surname throughout the world, their wealth, their martial skill, their traits, etc.

Since you may wind up playing them, and you may want to marry your daughter to them, even if they're not in your present court, you should have a great interest in them.

It'd certainly be useful if the game could distinguish between actual blood relations and other characters with the surname.

Well, it's not that those 'Country Cousins' aren't blood relatives, it's just that the game doesn't tie them into the Family in any way. What would be nice is if the game would 'fit' them in somewhere, or create a linkage, but they don't show up in anyone's succession list so as to not inherit anything they shouldn't have a right to.

But on a related note, I would wish they would do away with that 'No Last Name' Dynasty.

Person's Family Tree

Would be nice CK2 had something like a family tree to keep an easy track of that persons dynasty.

Taken from Wikipedia as an expample:

Also, it would be nice if the persons name were clickable so we could see that persons family tree.

I once tried to map a family tree for my Trencavel dynasty using a commercial genealogy program. Sadly the family was so hideously inbred that it broke the software:

Please take pity on us, Paradox! Give us a family tree that works!

I don't think you will find anyone on this forum who is against an ingame family-tree :)

Agree. However, I would like to suggest that whether it shows actual portraits of the characters be something that we can click on or off. Or better yet, maybe the family tree wouldn't show the portraits, but if you clicked on a characters name, you'd go to a screen with more detail about that character, including their portrait.
