I started playing this game a few years ago and it was so much fun. Then with the update to pc version(?) that included a lot of changes and old saved games not working anymore - i didnt like it and stopped playing.
I wonder if theres any way to install an older version, lets say just before that big update, and continue the game that i liked?
Possible?

Probably not.

You've got to remember that if Microsoft and Sony allowed that it could cause problems with consoles and bugs. Older versions of the game wouldn't be supported so it would just be a mess to organise. Would be cool to have but there is no way that I know where that is a possibility. Probably will never be possible on console due to multiple limitations. On PC you have all sorts of technical stuff that you have access to where as console you don't. Not paradoxs', Microsoft's or Sony's fault as it would not be feasible with all the games and limitations. (Sorry for long response. I wish it could happen as well but I still like current game more than older game)

Also got to remember the game is handled by tantalus on console and it feels it would be unfair to put even more pressure on them. They re doing a great job and I wouldn't want to put more pressure on them.

is there a way to know what version the disc version is? I mean if i bought the game and found a version produced pretty close to the update? The disc version if i play offline would work…?

It could. But If your connected to the internet it will want to give you the update and won't let you play unless you update. It could I guess but I doubt someone would sell you a game that's on an older version as if you want to sell anything you would probably want it updated so you can sell for a good price. Also probably not many discs around I would assume. The only way you would probably work is if you disconnected yourself entirely from the internet.

Paradox and Tantalus have indeed added a lot of great stuff to the game over the years and made many welcome changes, though of course a few not so welcome ones...

Overall I really like the game as it is, but there are several things from before one particular big patch I wish they hadn't changed and wish I could get back - they completely changed how your (or any other empires') borders change and how you capture most systems and changed many mechanics in the game, in particular related to combat and introduced war exhaustion etc...

As said, I rather like the game as it is, but do wish we could go back to certain older mechanics or even "God" forbid be allowed to choose which changes to add or not, at least in single player, but it is what it is...

Also I'm quite lucky to have two PS4s, one in my house and one in my girlfriend's house and when that big patch came out, I patched one install of the game and started playing with the new content almost immediately, however I intentionally didn't patch the other install for months until I had finished a particular playthrough under the old mechanics and indeed whenever there is such a big patch, where old saves aren't compatible, I still generally wait months until I'm finished whatever playthrough I'm currently on before patching on at least one of my consoles :) ...

Anyway as others have said, unless you have old installs of the game on one or more consoles or harddrives, there's no way to play the original unpatched version of the game without the game on disc! :) .

I would definitely enjoy playing older versions occasionally. Too many things I enjoy with content added since release to do more than 1 or 2 old school games in a year but I would do it. Pre Utopia is effectively a completely different game that just happens to use some of the same assets.
I got pc version for that.

I don't know about XBox but you can stop your PlayStation from downloading or installing updates altogether, and it does not prevent you from playing the game. I did exactly that many months ago to keep a playable version of Surviving Mars on my system since the replacement devs to Heimemont just broke the game completely and then Paradox abandoned it so the only way I can enjoy the game is by playing an older version. Fortunately Stellaris has mostly only improved, though with some upcoming changes I'll probably elect to stay on the current version.

the disc copy would likely be on pc patch 1.0, which is before any dlc was on console edition [this means you wouldn't be able to use any dlc]

I bought a disc copy and its not without dlc.
So im happy now, even though its not all the dlcs its atleast something.
So if anyone else out there isnt pleased with the game after the game change, search for disc copies!
I should ass that the only way i managed to play the game is on my old xbox one that i now only play offline. So if you want to play other games online aswell this wont work…
