Hi, asking here if anyone knows if there is a way to use an older version of the paradox launcher through steam.

For context on why, I am trying to run the game on Linux through proton since I have observed large performance gains compared to the native version (not really expected, but I don't want to complain) as well as resolving certain visual bugs. However, newest versions of the launcher do not work with any proton versions 7 or 8 that I have tried. The launcher that comes with a fresh install of the game does work however. I would like to see how many versions I have to go back to get it working again and hopefully avoid an accidental update.

Have you already tried the launch option --disable-gpu ? It has helped me when the launcher didn't start in proton. But I'm curious in which game you see these performance gains. So far I have only used the proton version for games which don't have a Linux version

Thanks for the reply. I've tried --disable-gpu with no success.

The game is CK3 (this was originally posted to that part of the forum). The performance gains were pretty extreme, which suprised me. Though I am trying to run on an igpu on a laptop so any gain is more noticable. CK3 also has a very annoying graphical bug where the wrong textures/shaders are applied to the wrong models on the native Linux version of the game.

I think I got this working. It was just using --disable-gpu that I needed to do after all, I just had to get the argument in the right position around the command steam is executing. For some reason it was inserted in a weird spot unless I explicitly wrote %command% --disable-gpu in the startup command. Careful watching the logs in terminal while I launched the game helped me catch this, but also thank you very much fo pushing me to try further with this!

Edit: well at least this saves me as long as I don't let the launcher update to 2023.14. 2023.11 works though. At least this lets me play again with the performance gains and more bug free experience compared to native Linux CK3.
