38 Studios, referenced in the post, was the video game company owned by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. The RI state government lost roughly $100m when they went belly-up.

Very interesting article. I'm from Rhode Island, and I currently work for a small, "honors" major at a large public university in the U.S. We have a very similar strategy to Paradox's: we're too small to compete with the big name private universities on every front, but if we stick to our strengths we can be very successful.
