Rome Gold won't launch

Basically, I just downloaded Rome Vae victis and Gold from steam (at the time, I hadn't known that this probably wasn't a good idea) but it won't launch whenever I click on the "play" button. Instead, I get a short message reading "Preparing to launch Europa Universalis: Rome- Gold edition", after which nothing occurs. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Try the fix listed in the sticky thread above titled "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_41.dll was not found" .
