Rome Saves Shuts Down My Laptop

I have the latest patch installed and have been playing Rome now since it's release. I've had the popping music and sound problem since the beginning, I've tried running it in different modes.

The only thing I can do is reduce the scope of the map down and use just the political map instead of terrain or other ones.

Recently though I am half way through a Rome game with my save file size steadily increasing to about 15,000kb per save. At about the 13,500kb lvl I would get complete shutdowns of my laptop when I saved. Quite often I would have to go in and delete the last save or the game would crash to desktop if I tried using it at the load menu.

I am really not happy with unexpected Windows shutdowns playing this already flawed game. I've tested with other programs including EU3. No problems.

I've spent years playing a few buggy releases of Paradox games but never had one take my system down before.

Lastly, I have experienced two system shutdowns simply by inactivity in the game, like I got busy and stepped away from the computer.

I kind of like the game and think it might be good in a few patches but I worry for my Windows system. I will probably need a reinstall if I keep playing this bugger.

Nope the new patch didn't help at all. Yes after the crashes I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it's updates. I know the drill.

So there is still a problem when the in game month ends and you get to see a black screen then a Windows improper safe boot screen upon reboot. I hope that you might have some answers. Thx

I ran Speedfan on the system while I was playing the game. Once it reached 97C the Alienware laptop would shut itself off for protection. Other programs ran fine but I got a heat buildup when running Rome. So not your fault except for the music popping which still occurs.

97C are you serious? You are having some heat issues there buddy.
Is it a laptop ? If yes then place it on a hard surface (table, desk etc) without any cloth underneath it and lightly (2-4 cms) raise the back end (near the monitor) of the laptop, place something on the edges to keep it there making the laptop "float" near its back. Or of course place something under the 4 corners of it to raise it and create plenty of space between the laptop and the desk.
Also, try to use rivatuner for the fan controls and set to start with windows and set with windows the manualy controlled fan at 100% and then check the temps.
There is a chance the fan isn't working.

Thanks for the advice. All good suggestions. I hadn't heard of the rivatuner but will check it out. It's an Alienware laptop so I will need to find a temp because they are notorious about keeping it in the shop in Houston once you ship it.
