Which thread, sorry? In general a fix for XP is also a fix for win7.

What version and checksum are you getting? They should display on the main game menu screen, but for some people it is only showing when they go to host an MP game.

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

Just one further thing before I start. The thead I referred to and I applied required the installation of a C++ 2005 library. The problem is that the machine I am running uses (or one the apps to support the monitor uses) C++ 2010 x64 redistributable 10.0.30319 and also previous version are present 2 x 2008 x64 9.0.21022 & 9.0.20729.17 and the original 2005.

I will wipe the installation and start from scratch installing the patches for the base app then tha addon and the patches. Do I need to re-start between?

No. Also, there's no need to patch Rome before applying VV. I recommend instaling Rome to a spot outside the system path, like c:\games\rome\; then do make 100% sure VV and then 2.32c get applied to that same directory so they overwrite Rome.

I have managed to get it working.

Procedure:

- deleted all versions of rome.
- then removed the base C++ 2005 and rebotted.
- applied the C++ 2005 SP1 version (leaving all the other intact 2008 & 2010).
- installed Rome
- applied patches to Rome (I did this last night before reading you recommendations - beer goggles)
- installed VV
- applied the 232 (i assume it 232c taken from the gamesgate site)
at each stage I tested it thne backed it up

It appears that deploying C++ first then installing the appliction made the difference?

Thanks for you help
