Dear Victoria Community,

I am a very enthusiastic fan of many titles from this crew. I have a problem hosting games for my friends to hook up to my game. Now if I disconnect my router and just play with my cable modem, my friend can connect and we play fine.

Then I reconnect my router and we have never been able to play with my router connected. I have this model:

Netgear RP614v2 with firmware 5.14 RC1

When I connect my router I am able to play other games like Day of Defeat, browse internet, download files, use DC++ (which also requires an open router port to be in active mode as I am), and my other computers are connected to the internet normally.

I have several tabs available to setup in my router setup menu. The two I have focused on are the:

Port Forwarding
Port Triggering

When in Port Forwarding I open ports 2300 through 2400 and forward them to my computer. I also opened the port of 47624 as indicated by the forums. I router both these openings to 192.168.0.2 which is my machine number.

So my friend puts in my IP and I host the game and he can never connect. I have had him try using specific ports like :2300 at the end of the IP. My options in the router config for port forwarding are limited.

I see one member here opened his router this way:

"Start Port 2300
End Port 2400
IP Adress is the IP of your local PC(if you have DHCP it's mostly 192.168.1.33 otherwise tipp "ipconfig" in the DOS Prompt)

then click on save"

I simply cannot get this to work as easily as this fellow. I don't see why we need to open 3 ranges of ports. I think that the above member made it work with a simple range it should work for everyone with the same range. Can anyone here please help me. As I mentioned, I am a huge fan and I want to take this to the multiplayer level over the internet.

We also tried pointing to one port, a range, port triggering which gives you an input range and an output range, etc. Please help.

Very very very greatful for help in advance,

Michael Hradek

P.S. I wanted to add a comment here that I have extensively searched the forums for solutions to my problem. I have followed links and suggestions left on HOI and EU2 multiplayer forums. Please advise.

Succes!

Well intrestingly I have found the solution for my problem myself. It has been this strange journey of research and dumb luck. Anyway...

I went to my manufacturer's website and they list the ports 2300-2400 and port 47624 as the ports required to be open for MSN Game Zone (DX) applications.

Also, I upgraded to the latest firmware on my router RC9 and did a master reset. This wiped all previous configuration information. No static routes were therefor made and the router defaulted my main computer to 192.168.0.3

That's all there was to it. No DMZ server stuff, no port triggering, no wacky router voodoo rituals. It turns out that my router has had problems with its firmware (dslreports.com) since birth and in order to fix a previous problem I had setup a static route by reserving .2 for my main machine. This caused some sort of conflict and when that static route was erased.... everything has been working just fine.

I have been using DC++, Victoria with my friend and everything else.

Alsthoug no direct replies were made to my queries, I would like to thank you all for some of the scattered information whether it was wrong or right because it gave me a place to start.

Hradek

Hi Hradek, I know it's an old thread but i have the same router and the same problem. I've checked the last firmware and the last one is RC3 and not RC9. So where did you find it??

How did you do a master reset? just unplugged it?

Thanks!

edit - humm, only 3 posts. He probably won't read that :(
