Hello

I was wondering if Edward VIII was married in the mod, and if not, who if the development team considering.?

If there is nothing going on about him, maybe include it as an event to who he would marry (although I admit I don't know to whom).

It would understandable if there is nothing really happening involving Edward, due to it not really impacting the word.

Hope the mod keeps going strong.

i think him meeting Wallis Simpson would be butterflied away (as in OTL they met in london). But a few good choices for a marriage for him, german or danish princesses and maybe an canadian or american socialite. Think closer to mittleuropa, the neutral choice, isolationist and close international relations.

the american choice could lead the king to more directly interfere with the second american civil war (especially if the lady in question was from new york), the german princess could lead to some sort of warming of relations between the entente and mittleuropa (anti syndie pact or something), danish could give an easier inroad to iceland and the canadian choice would lead to less trouble at home or increased good will for the government?

all would give the king a series of events where he could direct foreign/domestic policy through family connections

There should be a marriage event for Edward, but which lucky princesses are available? A Scandinavian or Dutch royal would be a fairly easy choice although a German could be good for improving relations with the Mittleeuropans.

What about the possibility for an Asian princess? Japanese, Chinese or Indian?
I know how so untraditional this might be for 1940s british royals, but this is kaiserreich so... :p

I think that that would be to unlikely, Kaiserreich even for .

He's still not getting any. :p

How about marrying him to Marlene Dietrich or someone equally cool?

I was thinking that there should be a number of choices available, and if Edward picks one of the more controversial options (like Marlene Dietrich or some Hollywood actress I was thinking Jean Harlow but it turns out that renal failure could not be cured in the 1930's) if he picks someone more controversial then perhaps King can take advantage of it and we can end up with King Albert I!

I guess abdication is a possibility but King would be risking a lot trying to oust the Prince of the People.

Shame about Harlow as she would be great for an american option. So let's say, there could be three or four options. Two for socialites he's 'in love' with, and two for princesses that he could marry to make the family look like proper snobbish aristocracy.

Personally I really dislike ahistorical marriages, especially when dealing with Royalty. Having a heir created out of thin air, or having a heir with a different mother is simply too unrealistic for a mod like Kaiserreich which prides itself on historicl detail (although thats not always the same as historical accuracy). Still, I know Edward remained childless in reallife, so I guess having him marry wouldn't upset the natural order too much. The problem is that there are simply very little acceptable candidates around. Having him marry a commoner, or even worse, a foreign commoner or even worse, an actress, would lead to a repeat of the reallife crisis and probably means having Albert on the throne. Too much of a repeat of real history if you ask me.
Also, most European Royal candidates are either politically unacceptable (by being supportive of Germany) or have the wrong religion (need to be protestant). I think Edward would either marry the daughter of some exiled Lord, or remain single for those reasons.

Just my two cents though.

I personally oppose Edward getting married and settling down. It would be interesting to see how everyone reacts to his continual affairs with older and married women even during his reign. It might have Albert come in, or maybe another King, but I'd still find that more entertaining than just marrying him. Although, he could marry one of the women he fools around with just to avoid any political controversy. Since it happens so much, maybe it can be a randomly triggered event.

There would be substantial pressure on Edward to get married, also I think that marrying a German princess would be viable it would be an attempt to reach a rapprochement with the most powerful nation on Earth. Sir Mackenzie King would be (assuming that Edward VIII sides with Bennet and the Exiles) desperately trying to find some way to get rid of Edward and replace him with his weaker brother Albert.

I think you underestimate the hatred most people would feel for the Boche, Jamhaw. It was Germanies warmongering and backstabbing that lead to the Weltkrieg, which has lead to German nobles losing their British titles and a namechange to Windsor for the Royals themselves. The Germans also didn't lift a finger to save Britain from the Reds a few years later. Without the Boche the Windsors would still be sitting in London instead of Ottawa. I think any marriage between a Windsor and a German dynasty are out of the question for decades, let alone a marriage between a Windsor and a Hohenzollern.

Also, wasn't Albert a lot more competent than his brothers? AFAIK Edward was little more than a charismatic but shallow loudmouth.

I was thinking that +5 dissent or so would be appropriate for a marriage with a German royal and it would have been one of the more unlikely options, with a less than ten percent chance of occurring. I think that hatred of the "krauts" would have waned a bit by the late late 30's as British Subjects would direct most of their hostility toward the Syndicalists, they would not like the Germans at all of course but they may think that rapprochement with them would be a necessary prerequisite for reconquering Great Britain and so be willing to bury the hatchet, at least until their primary goal is achieved. Such a marriage would not be a marriage for love but merely for diplomacy, although I have not done any research as to just who would have been available to marry Edward so I suppose this debate could be moot anyway. I think that the most likely marriages for Edward would be to exiled noblewomen or possibly Scandinavian or Dutch princesses assuming that any were available.

Competency and strength are not necessarily the same thing. Edward was far more likely to try and get what he wanted and to use his powers, of course he lacked his brother's competence (not to mention sense of responsibility) which lead him down the road which ended in his abdication. Albert was less inclined to try and get his way and would not have attempted to gain more power or meddle in politics as much (and of course lacks the "people's prince" stardom that Edward has achieved) so I think that King would prefer Albert I on the throne, if of course Edward opposes King. Otherwise, King would have no problem with Edward whatever he did.
