All of the momories of EU and EU2 come flooding back as I attempt to find an online game. I have posted for games with my availability and flexibility. I have reposted for games. I have sat on V-Net many times waiting to play. I have asked players there for a chance to get in a game many times. In each case I have been greeted with the same response: silence.

Never before in my long and eclectic gaming career have I seen a community more snobby, more rude, and more elitist than this one (to include EU). What is wrong with you people? Do you think your skills are so advanced that you cant be shown a thing or two by a "noob"? Can you not even respond with something like:

Games is full
we have enough allready, next time maybe
or even something like;
we think you suck, or
you probably cheat.

These would at least be better than silent snubs and "insider" back patting.

Been trying for a several weeks and have yet to be invited or allowed to participate in any way, dispite repeated friendly and submissive attempts, so if your response to this is "we would have invited you, but now you are a jerk so we wont", I say so? no worse off than before.

Exception and very appreciative thanks to
Wild_Weasel, who did make an attempt, was helpful and friendly. Of course his other players admonished him for trying to help.

I ask again, and when answering remember, I am a very active member of the online gaming community OUTSIDE of this little elite clique, so only a noob in your mind:

What is wrong with you people?

It is true that new players have difficulty to get into a game. "Experienced" players are hesitant to accept players as we all have had bad experience with people who cheated or wrecked a game. The most frustating part of this is that it ruins a game which may have taken many hours/days to play.

As far as the rude and snobby part, there are of course players who may be rude or arrogant, but that goes for all gaming community's i guess.

So you may have had bad experiences but not all players are like this.....

If you wanna join a new game just e-mail me

Here's a couple reasons:

1. Games are long and take a commitment. Unless you happen along right when we're starting up, you're probably only going to be allowed in as a sub.

2. Why would an in-coming player only be allowed to sub? Because even with broadband all around, we find that we can't manage more than a certain number of players without lag at even the slow setting. If we say "we're full", neither us nor you would likely enjoy the experience if you HAD been allowed to join.

3. Trust. We've played games with unknowns, only to see our new friend Hungary DoW SU just AFTER everybody spent fifteen minutes on pause setting up their opening moves. There are "unknown" trolls out there in Vnet that give you guys a bad game and make us less likely to trust you.

I'm sorry to hear that, I myself usually find games in the forums, it gives a legitamicy to you. Unfortunately some people are shuned by new players because of the cheating that can ruin the game which can be a hefty investment of time.

With that said, I just a couple of days ago was invited to a random game, I myself not a regular and have not met these people but we played a fair legit game for hours until my modem decided to bug out. And I have never seen a case where if the player asks, there is not a response telling him if he can or cannot play. Also remember a language barrier is strong in such and international game.

Although I do not make excuses for the few that might of ruin your gaming experience I hope that with some time you realize that the majority of people that play on Vnet arent in an "elite clique" but like you are trying to find a game to enjoy.

Having read about your frustrations Heathcoat -there is one critical piece of data missing from your post ......my address in AST -- so where in the world are you??? This is significant as it has the effect of:

A. Timezone synchronization.

B. Reinforces point #2 made by Brasidas -- there are some serious lag issues with intercontinental play -even with fast ADSL lines.

C. Other players tend to band together in regional groups simply for the above reasons.

So keep looking mate -- if you are in the EU or US area, you will find someone out there.....have you tried the MP Players list at the following thread???

http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180527

Good luck

I don't play that much on v-net (because I don't always have that 4-5 hours straight of free time to play) but the games I played on the weekend I didn't had the same experience as you.

The players I meet on v-net usualy respond to me, invite me to their game etc.... but the problem I had is that I didn't played one complete enjoyable game yet. Some games germany atack everybody at the start so get crushed easily soon in the game or we have a good start we play for 4-5-6 hours then somebody got to go and nobody really wants to continue.

I think it's more the fact that this game take a long time to play and it's not easy to have the same 4-5-6 people to have their spare time at the same moment that make that game hard to play in MP + the fact that some people can ruin the gaming experience of the other players by doing stupid things. Also HOI is not that popular in north american eastern time so it's even harder for me to find a game, exept in the morning on the weekend.

But I still hope that I will find a fun game sometime because that game is really fun...but I got bored quickly playing against the AI...

Hi Heath,

There is a reason for people being wary of inviting new people to their games. In HOI2, a game that might have gone on for several sessions can be easily wasted by someone who either doesnt know how to play, cheats, or who is just their to willingly ruin the game (happend to me in the past). Also, HOI2 is rather unforgiving in mistakes people make, more so then most other online games. So accepting new people via Vnet is an absolute no-no if I'm present in a group.

In order to enjoy MP, I would suggest you watch out on the forum for new games starting or alternatively, set up a new thread stating time, date, timezone and campaign you would like to play. By setting up/joining a couple of those sessions, you tend to find several players who (assuming your not a troll) will invite you for other games as well. You will have a lot more fun and games if you stick to 1 or 2 regular sessions with dependable players then to try and pick up a game with Vnet strangers.

Ok

I understand all of that, thanks.

I am willing to sub.

I am willing to play a minor role so people can test me. Poland, Australia, I dont care, I will succumb to any initiation needed. I just want to play.

I live in Western USA.

Someone gave all of you a chance, and it worked out. I just want a chance.

If people don't say anything on V-Net then it may be because:

1. they are away from the keyboard (afk) or alt-tabbed to another application

2. they are waiting for a scheduled game and not looking for pick-up play

3. their command of English is poor

4. they are shy

5. they are just not in a chatty mood

6. they are running a game other than HoI and channel hopping to look for players

The rude/snobby thing might apply too but I think it's more likely to be some mix of the above

Andrew

Heathcoat i see your post

Well i know what you mean, and can say thet i play in a "closed" envirement, and do not prefere vnet for anything but battlesenarios.
I can never trust players on vnet, and must say that i have never jet finnished a full game played on vnet. Never have i played a game from 36-45 on vnet, only in the group i play in.

So the ones that do play on vnet i can anderstand, many ppl are the g2g type, or just quit, or do other things... and trust me, that realy destroyes the game, and so many dont use forum, so you risk to never see them aigen... and the 40-70 game hours you then invested ended up in using a sub, who will play bad wathever happends, cus the country he got is not planned after his svadules and tactics...

So i can say that i anderstand that pepole are resterctive to let new ones in,
in our group i get from 1-3 mails pr week of pepole who want to play with our group, joyn, or wounder when next game is, (including them selfs...) and so on, unforteoanly i must say no to 99%, or we woud be 60 players by now.
But we are only 11, so we than have a few as "reserves", not evryone gets a country...

A few i have saied welcome to, usualy the ones who has the "most serius" requests, and that i think is sounding nice as persons...

Its many players out there, i can only recommend you to start a new group, if you have problems joyning any, set conditions, post that you are a group searshing for players, and hopfulle many players in same situation as you, wil joyn you.

And then my advise is, liston to what they want, and tray and organise the best compromise possible, on times, rules and so on....
We have all been new in the game once...

NA Game Needs Heathcoat

Heathcoat (and Bloodlust)

We are attempting to revive a Thursday Night NA Series. Sessions will be every Thursday night at 9 PM Eastern Daylight Time, and run for 3-5 hours. You are welcome to join.

Game thread is at:

http://xsorbit25.com/users5/hoiplayers/index.php?topic=367.0

If you want in, register on the forum and post in the thread. Once we have 6 players, we will set the game rules, then assign countries, and we will start the game.

Did they say anything to you? Did they say anything to each other? If the answer to both is no, then I'm 99% certain they were either afk or doing something else ATM.

Thanks General, but I can't play until 2AM on a Thursday, I would be more interested in something like from 7pm to 11pm. Like I said I am not blaming anybody, it's my situation, the game itself and the fact that players are spreaded all over the world that make it difficult to have a fun game from 36-38 to 45.

By the way if you see me in V-net I'm Bob.

Thanks all

Thanks for all the help guys. I have been playing MP games for a while, and am aware of the above mentioned reasons for not responding. In many cases, the people I was asking to join were speaking to each other, in English, and refused to respond, even to say "game full". No biggie. I remember playing EU and wasting plenty of hours myself. I commit, I finish, and I follow the pre-determined rules.

Heck, I dont even download cheatcodes for my PS2! lol
