This will be a narrative style AAR centering on the Clan of Uí Ceinnselaig starting with Murchad mac Diarmata, ri tuaithe of Dublin. I honestly have very little idea of where this is going to go but I intend to make full use of the character features CK II has in order to make my story as good as it can be. Where I can I will use Irish titles and names, as I have already.

The first update should be coming rather soon.

It really does suit Ireland at the time. Although tbh Dublin is arguably the least sad and least little kingdom in Ireland. :D

To say Domnall was nervous would have been a bit of an understatement. He was getting married on this very day. Not only was he getting married but she was the sister of an Emperor, and she was in line to inherit a dutchy held by her brother. Énna smiled at him and clapped his shoulders, “Come on brother, really you have nothing to not be confident about. We are doing this wedding here at our home with our bishop and its not like the Keiser came here. He just sent his sister off without a word.”

A few floors away Adelheid was staring into a fire in this strange place as her new servants were putting on a blue dress cut in a strange fashion. She couldn’t speak the language of the area, but at least the bishop who was marrying her spoke Latin.

The ceremony took place in Christ Church, not too far from Ath Cliath, and was as elegant of an affair as it could be. Tapestries had been hung on the walls displaying the history of Clann Uí Ceinnselaig and the altar had been covered in a purple cloth showing that even here there was royalty to be found. The proceedings were done in traditional fashion with handfasting done to signify the binding of the married couple to each other and their church.

Book I
Act I
Scene II

Murchad looked grimly ahead as he held on to his father’s casket. On the other side was his brother, Énna, while Murchad’s sons Domnall and Énna were behind him. Behind his brother was his son, Diarmata, and Gilla-Christ took the sixth position. Their breath was frosty as they slowly from Ferns to Leighlin and the family crypt. Bishop Cerball de Ferns would lead the mourners in their service. The body would be interred in the crypt with a statue eventually made at the feet of the tomb as was tradition for the greater members of the family.

Later that day Murchad knelt in front of Cerball in the church of Ferns. “Do you accept your new role as Mór Ui Ceinnselaig to lead the clann to greatness and service to our lord?”
“Yes I do so accept.”
“Then by the power invested in me I do so name you Murchad mac Diarmata, Mór Ui Ceinnselaig. There is another title that I am to bestow upon you. Will you hear this title and choose to accept its bestowing?”
“Yes, bishop I will hear this title.”
”Then I do ask you if you will accept the title of Ri tuaithe of Lenister which does make you also a Ri tuath as you will then hold two titles.”
”I do accept the title of Ri tuaithe of Lenister and the title of Ri tuath that comes with it.”

Firefly and an Ireland CK 2 game in one place? This is my new favourite thread. Great start, can't wait for the next update.

Merchad looked at the assembled group before him and took a moment before addressing them. “It has been the custom of the Clanns for as long as we have records that if a father has multiple ri tuaithe titles he splits them among his oldest sons. The oldest gets the best title, the second the second title and so on until he runs out of sons or titles. In the case of running out of sons he starts again with giving his oldest the best title and so on. It has been argued that this allows all the sons to have titles and it gives them the same chances to gain honor. The problem with this approach is that very often the sons do not feel beholden to each other and they do not support each other. This keeps Ireland divided and without a single leader.”

De Dublin looked up at this moment, “If I may my lord, I underthand what you are thaying. However wouldn’t changing thethe lawth be againtht God’th Will? When our Lord Jethuth died He had Hith dithcipleth thpread Hith Church not ath one, but each on their own.”

Mór de Christ Church nodded smiling, “Yes, my wise friend you are correct. I have studied history almost as much as you have studied the Holy Book, and such a change would be most unheard of. We Irish do not do things like that. When a ri dies, his sons get his titles, except those they can not hold. Just as you gained the ri tuaithe when your father died so must Domnall get the tuaithe of Dublin, Énna must get the tuaithe of Leinster and if you gain another tuaithe in your lifetime Donnchad must get that tuaithe.”

“Oh no, I do believe our liege is on to something.” De Millifont countered. “If Domnall is allowed to gain all of the titles held by Mór Ui Ceinnselaig then he will be in position to gain Rí ruirech of either Leinster or Mide. At which point he can give the title of Rí tuaithe of Leinster to Énna. That way Énna would be obliged to lend aid to his brother while still getting the chance to prove his honor by being a Rí himself.”

“And that is the kind of idea I was thinking of, thank you, Mór de Millifont. When I die Domnall can keep both titles until he is able to prove himself a leader of great enough honor and power to take one of the higher titles and then he will give his brother his rightful title. We can even have Énna be Domnall’s heir until that happens. Mór de Trimm, please write up a decree stating that from this moment forth no titles that would separate the holdings of the Clann of Ui Ceinnselaig will be beholden to the tradition of Gavelkind. Instead all will pass to the oldest son until he attains a higher title. During this time his brothers will be his heirs and once he has reached his higher title he must distribute the titles according to Gavelkind.”

An interesting start. Subscribed.

Thank you Saithis.

To every one of my readers, I hope you don't mind de Dublin's lisp too much. Also I will be trying to get at least two more updates in the next 24 hours because then I will be away from my computer for a week due to a wonderful vacation in the land of flowers.

Book I
Act I
Scene IV

“Domnall, we have taken the first step to securing your power. You will get both titles when your father dies. But remember we are not done yet, we still have much to do. It seems your father is starting to take up hunting, which will be wonderful. It will give us time to contact people who are not in your father’s close sphere to win over to our side.”

“Yes, I see Máel. As normal you do have a point, but are there really sides? Is there really an ‘our side’ and a ‘their side’?” Domnall looked at his friend with what he tried to pass off as a minorly reproachful look. They were in Domnall’s study; he was sitting while Máel was standing near by on the other side of the small table in the middle of the room. With an air of apparent boredom at the current subject Domnall looked over the various bookcases filled with books, mostly for looks truth be told, the hanging curtains and the two windows on the east wall that look out into the courtyard of Ath Cliath.

The older man rolled his eyes, “Of course there is an ‘our side’ and a ‘their side.’ We are trying to set you atop Tara just as every other man with a claim to a Rí is trying to do. That pits us against all of them. Even your brother Énna has a side that is not our side. I think you should give the title you will be expected to give to Donnchad rather than Énna. Donnchad is my student and he will be on our side.”

Domnall scowled “Oh really?” His normally friendly warm tone turned cold. “You think my little brother will be a contender. He is naught but a boy. Sure he has looks but not much else if truth be told and you know it.”
