Prologue:
The Father of Islands
The Father of Islands
The wise men spoke of the long-long ago time, when there were no people. He said that the world was a dark ocean, filled with unimaginable beasts, horrifing in size and filled with all things men fear. He said that the oceans were always cold, and there were no fish, and constant storms and lightning. The beasts fed off each other and the darkness... pulling the world deeper and deeper into their grasp. The evil Gods laughed at the suffering they had created. Why would they care? Earth was their play-toy... a simple top they would wind and spin, wind and spin. The suffering grew worse as the beasts grew larger, and larger and larger. Finally some had grown so long, that they'd bight their own tails, thinking they had snuck up on an enemy. The oceans grew more turbulent as the Gods fed more and more demons into the sea.
They laughed at the plight of the petty play-things. Their laughter brought down lightning and more suffering to the Earth, in its infancy. Eventually a beast came to realize that there was supposed to be something more, something beyond killing to amuse the Gods. This beast was Sulu, smallest of all demons. He spak unto the Gods as if they were children: "Hark! Listen to me so thou shalt see that these horrid beast do leave this planet! I come to thee and say, these beasts have not earned the right to be here, for they are mindless and cruel." And the Gods did not heed Sulu, instead they sent the beasts to consume him. But the stars above heard the cry for help and answered the cries of Sulu.
They gave Sulu but one gift, an all-powerful spear, the Spear of the Stars, and said if he truey be worthy of Earth, he would fend off the beasts. Sulu believed them, and trusted them as his guardian. He went forth into the darkness, holding the Spear and fought the demons as they came to him. He slaughtered many thousands of beasts, their bodies eventually were thousands thick, and Sulu stood on top of them, changed with legs and lungs so that he might be the only man of the Earth.
Finally only one beast remained, the massive demon Garhia. Garhia approached Sulu with caution, fearing the wrath of the stars. The vile Gods swore to end Sulu's defense of his right to freedom, and placed a curse on Sulu, even if he were to win the fight, he would be mortal, and would die anyways. The stars told Sulu of this, and he did not hesitate, "I shall defend Earth whether I shall see it free or not." With that he threw the Spear of the Stars into Garhia, his aim true, mortally wounding the giant beast.
With no demons, the seas calmed, and dropped revealing the land masses, Garhia, fearing Sulu's wrath, dragged itself on land and died, with the Spear of the Stars still in it. The stars did not chastise Sulu for his loss, instead blessed him with a partner, his wife Jolo. And they said to him, "Spread your kind across the land, for you are truely noble and brave. The universe can use leaders like you, and when you die you shall ascend into the heavens from the point of your bravery!"
Henceforth, the island Sulu, created out of the bodies of many thousands of demons was the most holy of holy sites. Sulu spread his kind across the Earth, and when he realized he was dieing, returned to Sulu with his closest followers and said to his wife, "Rule now for I slip to the stars!" And with that Sulu left his island home and went up into the stars.
The world was bright. There were no vile Gods, no demons to attack the kind of Sulu. The people flurished. The entire world was ruled from Sulu, the Father of Islands. Queen Jolo ruled for many an age, watching the world change. But when she died, there was no one left to rule. The eldest sons and daughters fought over the right to rule. They all wanted to sit on Jolo's throne and rule the world from the Island that bore all humans. They began to war, they began to divide themselves. Some painted themselves white, other black. They had lost track of the unity of Sulu. They each thought they were better or different. They each claimed to be the masters.
Many forgot about this story. They forgot about Sulu. They forgot about his island, his people, his dream. They wanted only war. Only bloodshed. Only death. They had become the vile gods, those evil beings who tortured Earth for so long. Eventually even the islands closest to Sulu had fallen away, to worship heathen Gods, to disgrace the land that Sulu himself built from the corpses of his enemies.
Only Sulu remained... bleak and desolate. Only a few thousand people lived on the island, long forgotten by many.
She lay untouched by foreign hand.
Forgoten as Empires rose, and Empires fell.
She was constant.
We need to rebuild Sulu. He will once again reign over the Earth.
We will bring peace and prosperity.
We will find the location of the Spear of the Stars, bring it back to Sulu.
We will not let Sulu and Jolo be forgotten.
Mother, father... we await your sign.
