Why would you want to do that? I mean, sailing from Europe to India could take upwards to a year.....even if you were to speed that up to 50x you would still be talking about about a week of realtime sailing where the odds of anything exciting happening is quite low :)

So while I didn't try to find a way of doing that during the beta, I have my doubts that it's possible.

Well, even with 1024x time compression a year's sailing would be condensed into 8.5 hours. It would be more of a second job than a game then, besides you'd lose the fun aspect of sailing if you compress time like that and I would most definately prefere not to have to give the order to reef the sail when that storm shows up on the horizon :)

speed...

ok, so, am i to then understand there is no game speed options at all let alone any kind of real-time or real-time-ish onboard deal(like SH3). i haven't been able to locate a demo. it doesn't help that i am a pc caveman lol. be that as it may, i will prolly wait to c if any1 comes up w/ any mods or perhaps there's an add-on to make the game more in depth as far as business stuff and towns are concerned. i was fully hoping EIC was the rebirth of port royal 2. from wut i have gathered it is far from that... bummer.
anyhew... thanx folks.

tsk tsk tsk

Ok so this post made me come out from the shadows and make a small observation and also post a snide reply. By the way hello and greetings to all before I sound like a total jerk
Now normally when someone has a question about something they usually do one of two things, preferably both of course. They structure the sentence in the form of a question and/or use a question mark. I read the post and it still gives me the appearance of a statement followed by a period. Which leads me to belive your flying off the handle was quite uncalled for.
But to answer your statement from everything I have gathered by reading the other posts about the topic, there is no form of time compression. I do believe that will make for some epic sailing adventures.....and that is just trying to find a parking spot.:D

There is no time compression at the tactical level (i.e. the one where you watch the individual ships). There is time compression at the strategic level, which is where you do all of the sailing to India anyway.

Time compression on the map is good enough, it would be nice to be able to jump to deck whenever you felt like it though, that only happens with attack/ed, doesn't it?
That way you could do a little sailing manually or watch other ships pass by whenever you wanted, or not. Would distant land show up?

Distant land, I believe, would show up, but honestly I think that this would be a waste of coding time. Most people would probably only honestly use this feature once or twice if at all.
