i have almost the same problem, EU doesn't run.
is it really windows ME? i have read all the posts in the "asola"'s story..and it is almost as long as mine, and i would like to underline that i do not have any no music icon as well as asola.

after the introduction movie the game crushes..and usually it resets the pc.. no change after resolution set at 800x600 updating all the possible drivers for my radeon graphic card and soundblaster (a simple sb16)

the requirements are well met so i do not know what to do.
i have played this game trying to see if it was a burned copy but it looks like the cd-rom is working perfectly and the game is great, now i am dying and passing hours to let him run in my house.

please

forgot to say

i forgot to mention that i took out my old pc out and the game runs there...grrrrr, but i can't ply it there since i have problems with the sockets of the graphic card voodoo3..and the screen is yellow, no other colores. i would like to let it run on my new pc... do you know if there are patches out for audio or graphic cards made just for the game?

Sorry for answering late :(

Have you downloaded the latest patch for EU (1.10) ?

the video files are in the directory AVI under \...\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2. Rename that folder to AVI Backup and try the game.
