Alright, I like to think I have learned, over the years, how to solve just about every problem one can possibly have with a Paradox game. But this one has me totally stumped.

My friend and I wanted to try out a new MP game after just getting 1.03c & VIP 4b. We have played MP in the past and both have fairly high-end systems. Also, we have no problems running SP with this version.

Here's the problem: Last night we tried to start a game...when I tried to join, I received a message (the exact wording alludes me, but the idea was something along the lines- "Cannot join game, your version does not match the host's version." Well...we both did a clean install that day...everything seemed to be done correctly. We both checked and, indeed, it did say 1.03c in the upper-right hand corner of the screen. Just to make sure, we uninstalled AND deleted the Srategy First file where ths game is located and then cleared the registry using Regedit. We then both did a clean install. Same problem occured.

Our internet is fine (cable) and we played HoI2 the other day, no problems. Anyone have any idea what would have caused this? We have installed it twice and I am CONFIDENT we should have the same version (I d/led 1.03, 1.03c, VIP 4 & 4b and put it on a CD for him. I was there when he installed it and he indeed did install it in that order). Any known problems with either that version of VIP or 1.03c that could cause this?

*note: the last time we played a game MP I just copied my patched/moded Victoria directory and put it on a disk for him to copy to his hard drive. We were perfectly able to play MP then. (dont worry, he has a purchased CD. It was just easier for me to patch it myself, then give him the full copied game on a CD. This time, however [after noticing what appeared to be a marked improvement in stability after he actually INSTALLED HoI2 on his comp, instead of just copying the directory] we tried to install it. )

1. All Mp related matters are dealt with in the MP forum.
2. We do not support user made mods, so you would need to check with the makers of VIP.

Well, part of my question was whether or not there was, in general, a known issue with, perhaps, 1.03c...but fair enough. Could a Mod please move this to the MP forum, by any chance?

Of course. :)

--> MP forum

my guess is that one of the players in that må game has modified some files.

that is the general cause of incompatible games.

It will be a modified file by either the host or you, so check if you have the same files. If there is a modified file in the /db or the /cfg make sure you both have the same and it will run nicely :)

That's exactly what I figured...BUT, the second time....we BOTH uninstalled it, cleared the registry, deleted all related files we could find and reinstalled it on BOTH of our computers with the exact same patches/mods.

I'll try it again, but it might be easier for me to ask this. I suppose this question might not get a quick answer, as most of the people who have done it are probably pirates (and thus be reluctant to offer their knowledge), but I'll ask anyway. Is there an appreciable difference (in performance) between a VIC game installed to the hard drive on a computer using the CD, then patched, versus a VIC game entirely copied from another computer's hardrive (just taking the Stategy First directory and copying it to a cd) and pasted to the new user's hardrive?

Thanks for the help guys, I greatly appreciate it.

Regards,
