The sandbox provides the player greater flexibility in customizing their playing experience. Not only does it open up the game to being played as any nation that was independent in 1949, but it allows for more options in the victory conditions, the historical events, and more. And since you are not necessarily playing as one of the two super powers, then the importance of the Spheres of Influence is likely less.

So theres still SoI in Sandbox? I almost thought it was just gonna be like SR 2020 but set in 1949!

Would make sense to add Russia as well as Soviet Colony in order to enable Russian independence following a fall of the Soviet Union, unless you have a way to script name and flag change.

why is Tibet and Ughuristan chinese colonies?

they were fundamentally part of China.

These areas were autonomous to a degree that probably made Battlegoat make them "colonies for gameplay purposes" (only.) My understanding of Tibet's status until 1959 when the ChiComs sent the troops in was that it was more of a client state with foreign policy dictated by Beijing than a true part of China. Obviously that situation has since changed.

We have notably increased the scripting ability of the engine but our focus has been more on events before the end of the Cold War

I hope it will be possible for people to add new events to the game as well?
