Simple question: how can my colonists regain sanity?

Especially my geologists, which are working in the extractors outside of the dome, loose more and more sanity and sleeping only recovers half the loss they suffer from working.

You want good quality housing (i.e. don't use apartment) and a bar for dome where most people are working outside. Although an ecologist or psychiatrist commander could probably just ignore the bar and just stick to park as their relaxing service.

If you have a 2nd dome you can send them to do non-outside work for awhile - you'd be slightly less efficient while they recover. Composed workers only take half the sanity hit so they generally can stay stable while working outside.

Long term, you'll get a tech that allows Martianborn to work outside for no sanity penalty.

You're asking the wrong question. The real question is why do geologists not like working outside? I used parks, which simulate being outside, to overcome them going insane from being outside. Little guy just sat on the bench and stared at the Martian landscape until he recovered enough sanity to go outside and work in the Martian landscape. o_O

Way easier ways to deal with it.

First, your goal long-term is to get all Martianborn geologists (honestly, all colonists) with the tech to not suffer losses of sanity from being outside domes.

But until then...

Build the sanitorium spire and upgrade your clinics in a geologist specialized dome. The upgraded clinics provide comfort, and the sanitorium helps sanity. Just one more reason to specialize domes...

Yeah, I had problems dealing with sanity too while trying to NOT have to build the infirmary in order not to have even more babies. I came to conclusion that the best would be to be all Martian pop asap and at the same time go for Composed trait for everyone (1. Composed 2. Enthusiast 3. Religious = seems like by far the best bunch).

Thanks for all the replies! Sadly, the bar didn't help at all.
It seems difficult to start working extractors right from the beginning with the first dome. Think it would be better to start with some research and farming and then specialize the second dome to extract metals?

That is what I did. First one was food and basic production (polymers, machine parts) later expanded with Research Lab and University, to be changed into final Food + Drone Printing + Kid and Adult Education with Research. Second one going for Metal and Rare Metal extraction right now and manufacturing is going to be moved here (Polymers, Machine Parts, Electronics).

Though take note I played a quite strange game, having played with drones and rovers for about 100 Sols, strip mining the surface for metals and mining concrete (ended up with 2.2k metals and 1.8k concrete by the time first colonists arrived) while researching some things and scanning all the sectors (started with deep scan as astrogeologist). So my first Dome ended up being Mega Dome. And it was one of the easiest start locations. I would start with Medium Domes (or ideally, Oval) if possbile, though depends on how you like to play, having Small Dome and colonists asap might be fun and challenging.
