I like to wait till I can scroll over my energy income and see I am getting more from jobs and stations than from trade, before swapping to consumer benefits trade policy. I've been 500 consumer goods deficit for a few decades, and completely forgot about it. Then I realized I have 3K energy income, and sure enough, 2K from jobs/stations. Satisfying mistake, since I could swap to consumer benefits which I thought I already had, and boom, now I went from -400 to +500 a month. YAY.
