Save Files being corrupt all the time? Big Save Files

Hi guys I played about 150 years in my game, and I realize that my save files are corrupting more often. I would save, then when I reload this file it would crash my game. Anyone having these experiences? Is there a way I can get around this, it's really annoying having to revert back 1 or 2 years considering things happen so fast in this game.

Is there a method to save? Should I first pause the game then save?
