I was playing my game, saved it, then my computer froze (in the saving process. Restarted the computer today, loaded up HoI, and tried to loading my savegame with no success. First two tries game me a freeze. Third time gave me a CTD. So I checked my save game file and it has been completely cleared! 0 bytes big, no data to be seen when opened in wordpad.

Is there anythign I can do?? I was so far into my campaign (44 or so) and I would hate to lose it. At the very least somebody please tell me what I can do to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks!

Assuming you use autosave, which you absolutely should, you can load up the file name "oldsavegame" to get the saved game from the same previous to your most recent one.

Unless it was the first autosave of the game (I hope not).

Yep, wrong forum

Happens to be me all the time. Check the savegame directory and make sure that you can see the details of the files.

List them newest first.

There should be two files:

xxxxxxx.eug and
xxxxxxx.eug.cfg

when xxxxxxx is the name of your save game. If these either of these files are not there (or maybe just the .eug file) then the game cannot be reloaded.

Reason: It was never saved in the first place.

You'll have to use a previous savegame. Or start again.:(

Either way, save often and then some.

Since we already have a thread open here by you on this subject I will close this one.
