Save game file keeps increasing its size

Not sure this is a bug but each time I save a new game (as game progresses in time), the size of the file increases dramatically (possibly due to already dead characters?).

I am now in 1220 and the size of the save game file is about 40 Mb. I am dreading the size when I reach 1400

Any way to solve this?

It´s not a bug, it´s a feature

Seriously, it´s a consequence of the game saving all the data on characters, even the dead ones. There are several user-made tools to purge dead characters. The best place to look for them is in the modding subforum.
