Has this ever worked for you or it has always been like this?

Which edition of the game is this? Steam, Epic, something else?

Any mods in use?

Not sure how or why that would cause this!

Please uninstall the game in the Steam client, and delete the folders:

C:/users/{UserName}/documents/Paradox Interactive/Surviving the Aftermath/ (Move any valued save games elsewhere first of course!)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/LocalLow/IceFlake Studios/

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Then install the game again and try it.

All the best!

I did what you said, but the error did not improve, the screen remains half-way, when I move the mouse, the building sounds, but the screen does not turn on :((((

What if you make a new Windows user and log into Windows as that, and install the game there? Any different?

You mean to revert to an older game version? I'm afraid IceFlake have not made them available.

But this will not be a bug in the current game version or everyone would get it.
Could you please attach here your output log and settings file? They can be found in:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Iceflake Studios\Surviving the Aftermath\player.log
Documents\Paradox Interactive\Surviving the Aftermath\settings.ini

AND DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

THEN can you please test the game on any other computer you might have access to?

We see crashes in another game MarsSteam.exe in there, but none in this game. In fact I see no reason for this problem in any of those files!

Let me know if it works on your friend's machine. If it does can I please get a dxdiag and player.log from there too, for comparison. Thanks.

@Beatrix26 not sure if you're still monitoring this thread.

Are you still having issues with this game?
Have you tested with a brand new save, created after the last patch was released?

The Player.log report does mention "SaveGameSystem" issue in the lines logging that a Crash has occurred, and I noted this save is from version 13x while I think the last patch bumped it up to version 17x. Perhaps it is just an incompatible save file version issue? 13x to 17x is a long way away...sorry if this is the case, I sympathise. Losing a long gameplay Save is a bummer.

Another suggestion is if the game/save load is taking very long, to bump down the graphics setting to Medium as you have a GTX 1650.
Or to simply tweak the ones that are resource hoggers like shadows, clouds, fogs and water reflection, or anything of that nature to a lower setting.

Reactions:
I just started playing the free epic version. While this thread might be stale, it might actually help someone looking for save game loading issues on pc.

Essentially, if I open the launcher or the exe directly, without going via epic, the save games DO NOT LOAD and just sits there forever w/ a non-filling progress bar and a clockish mouse cursor.

However, if I launch from Epic (which launches the launcher and signs me in automatically), the same save games load w/o issues.

Annoying really as I was hoping to bypass epic and the launcher [and even the intro videos]. C'est la vie! but at least my game wasn't just a waste of time!
