I have been trying to play this game for two weeks, but I can not get past April 1940 (in '36 Campaign)... The game will crash while I am trying to save it.

I did download the 1.03b patch, defrag my computor, and all that. Yet every time I saved the game the memory of it raises (obviously) but when it gets near 198,300kb+ it crashes.

I even emptied my computor so the only thing on it is HOI... including some really nice games I had going in Europa Universalis... saved games and all.... and it still crashes.

It there something I am missing?

My computor shows that I have 600MB of virtural memory free.
(note I play on a 1.2G T1120 emachine, with Windows XP)

Here is the direct link you need, to get the fix for the save game bug.

Corrupted?

I tried to open the file and get a message that says the zip file is invalid or corrupt... what am I doing wrong in trying to download it?

I go to the site given... click on the link 'Hearts of Iron'... then click the link 'HioParser.zip'... then open the file...

All I get then is a message box saying the file is corrupt or invalid.

PM me your e-mail address and I will send you a copy.
I have just tried it and it is OK.
You do have Winzip to unpack it with dont you?

Should I open it or save it to the computor?

I do not know the first thing about Winzip... or opening files as you have indicated... I have my computor only to play games and lack the skills to do much of anything except load games and play them.

Please give me a detailed outline of what I need to do to activate the HioParser file.

Where would I find Winzip on my computor?

Ken Von Romig

Right - first download the Winzip from here:-

http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm

Click on the "Download WinZip 8.1 SR-1" link

It will download to your computer. Make a note of where it is downloading to.

Now go to the file and double click on it.
It will now install itself.

Now go back to the HoiParser.zip and click on it. Choose to download *not* open.

Make a note of where it downloads to.
Now go to the HoiParser.zip and double click on it.

Winzip will now unzip it.
Make a note of where it unpacks it to (Usually c://unzipped Folder).

Now go to that place and double click on the .exe file found there.
You will then need to follow the prompts etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is difficult to explain properly - you really need someone to show you how to place downloaded files into their own Folders and how to Browse through Folders for files.

If the above looks too much then please try and get someone to physically show you.

It is important that you learn the correct way of doing the above as you will be using it a lot.

Well I did it... I used the HioParser zip on my saved game and it went from 198,386kb to a little over 5,000kb.

Question is... will I have to do this every time after I save a game?

And much thanks and kudos to you for the help....

Once they start getting big again.

It will be fixed in the next patch.

Kudos to you for following such long range instructions :)

Now you are beginning to actually *use* the PC :)

vonromig, Glad to see your skills increasing. :)

UD, Thanks for the help! always apreciated.

Havent had to offer long range instructions for ages - it takes longer to explain than actually do it :)

Not after every save, just before reloading it. And you could wait until the file gets up to 10MB or so. It generally starts doubling after that since the junk in the file is larger than the real data.

Thanks for the clarification.
