Germany - 1936 - Vanilla HOI 1.05c

This began as an attempt to win as Germany without any allies. In fact, I was just going to conquer all of my potential allies for the hell of it. Only one thing stood in my way. The damned Czechoslovakians. I didn't even know that the Czechs had the option to join the Axis in the Munich event. Ah, well. Live and learn. This turned out to be quite an interesting game. I'm currently in mid 1944 and probably have another couple of years left before I achieve my new objectives. No screenshots though...maybe I'll post one of my final victory. So....

Scene I: Alliance!?!

September 30, 1938

The Fuhrer of Germany lounged easily in his chair. He reflected on the past few years that had been so very good to Germany. They had thrown off the shackles of the hated Versailles Treaty and reunited with their brothers in Austria. They had rebuilt their military into a shining example of German superiority. And neither France nor Britain had lifted a finger!

Any minute now, his Foreign Minister would arrive with news of Czechoslovakia's submission to his Sudentenland demands. Next, the remainder of Czechoslovakia, then Poland, then Russia. Then the world. Adolf sighed. So much to do, and so little time to do it in. Von Neurath entered the room with an unreadable expression on his face.

"Constantin...I trust the news is good?" asked Adolf, cautiously.

By his Foreign Minister's hesitation to answer, he wasn't so sure.

"Mein Fuhrer....the Czech's have....a counter-proposal."

His lip quivering in rage, the Fuhrer of Germany spat out, "We made a demand...you do not issue counter-proposals to demands!"

"Please, Fuhrer! Read their proposal before you reject it. I believe you will find it quite....interesting."

Prague Treaty - October 12, 1938

1. Czechoslovakia will shift control of the Sudetenland over a three year period. Control will be ceded in stages, ending in the full cessation of the territory by February, 1942.

2. Germany will guarantee the territorial integrity of Czechoslovakia against all other claims.

3. Germany and Czechoslovakia enter into a treaty of alliance. The Czechoslovakian military will place itself under German control and will henceforth cease to be a seperate entity.

4. Czechoslovakia will be responsible for its internal policies, except where the security of the German people is in danger.

*secret clause* 5. Czechoslovakia will recieve territorial compensation for the Sudetenland from future German conquests.

Scene II: Poland

March 30, 1939

"We appreciate your government's offer of assistance, but the Polish nation is quite confident that it can beat back any German attempts to compromise its territory," said Jozef Beck, the Polish Foreign Minister.

Staring back at him in shock, his counterpart in the British Government, Anthony Eden grit his teeth in frustration.

"Your nation cannot hope to stand alone against the Germans. If we are going to put a stop to this unprovoked string of aggression, we have to do it now!"

Beck replied to him as he would a small boy: "Mr. Eden, I can promise you that my government is well-prepared for any German attack that may or may not come. But should we have any trouble repelling these barbarians, I can assure you that we will reconsider your kind offer."

"The British people are not going to sacrifice their lives for a Poland that slapped away its hand of friendship. This is a one time deal. Do not damn your country with your arrogance," snarled Eden.

"My government has made its decision. That is our final answer," replied Beck, coldly.

German-Czechoslovakian Declaration of War against Poland

"We regret that matters have come to this. The German and Czech governments have tried to keep peace between our nations, but the Polish government has met our offers of peace with insults. Our cries for brotherhood met with bullets. Our peoples say no more! A state of war now exists between....."

----------------------

"The Polish government has requested our immediate assistance in their war against the Germans. Their lines have been breached and their armies are in full retreat." Eden read. Crumpling the note, he tossed it over his shoulder.

"Screw 'em."

German-Czechosovakian Treaty of Peace with Poland

"We regret the need to raise arms against our Polish brothers and sisters. However, we rejoice in the freedom that we bring to you, our new friends. The Polish nation will now join in the prosperity and hope of its fellow Germans as equals in our great nation. Er...except for the people of Lwow, Sandomierz, and Przemysl. You will join in the prosperity of your fellow Czechoslovakians as equals in....."

Er....honestly, there's nothing much for him to do.:) After Poland, the remainder of the German fight has been against the Soviets. After the Poles rejected their invitation, the Allies have yet to enter the war (at least against me) circa 1944. They're quite busy elsewhere! Which is good, as my border with them is very sparsely guarded. I suppose I can figure out something for him to do, even if its just getting coffee for Hitler.:) In that regard, I suppose its not exactly a world war yet, but rather two or three seperate wars ranging around the world. But this is my AAR, so screw it all!

Scene III: Poor Joe

November 29, 1940

Joseph Stalin was the loneliest man in the world. Four months ago, he was the leader of the largest army of the largest nation in the world. And now...he was huddled in his private office in a Moscow under siege. Surrounding the shattered city, the German army was slowly tightening its grip. If he had only known a few hours earlier of the German breakthrough, he...no. He couldn't dwell on the "what ifs".

As bad as the situation was, it would still take the Germans weeks to threaten his position. Although he hadn't expected it to happen so soon, he wasn't caught completely unprepared. They may be experts on the open plains, but in house to house fighting, they were on even footing. The Man of Steel was nothing if not a survivor and he would be around long after Hitler's Third Reich was nothing but dust and...

Gunshots? Right outside the door? Had his people finally tired of him or....no, the men entering the room were clearly German. They would never take him alive!

Before he could even raise his pistol, a bullet tore into his shoulder. His arm dropped uselessly to his side as the weapon fell to the floor. Two German soldiers seized either arm as their tall, scarred officer slowly walked up to him.

"Comrade Stalin, our great Fuhrer has long been looking forward to meeting you."

July 5, 1940

"Their pathetic 'Fuhrer' dares to brush away my selfless offer of assistance with their Polish problem?! We are not the cowardly British or French to sit idly by while our neighbors are subjected to unprovoked aggression. We will teach this tiny little man and his Czech lapdogs exactly how immense a mistake they have made."
