Good evening,

I was looking into ships the last days and sadly I realised that the science and construction ship functionalities seems to be unique. It's only possible to define military ships even when you say it's a civilian ship. Problems so far:
  • Like military ships you can only add admirals. Couldn't find any options about leaders and ships. It would be nice if we could choose between {no_leader, scientist, admiral}.
  • Couldn't find anything about actions and interactions with the world itself. Options like {can_survey, can_build xy, ..} are missing?
  • There are fleets and fleets have ships. When I build a civilian ship with e.g. a science icon I still have a military fleet with military icon.
Additional topics:
  • Couldn't find any options for starting units. I think that is crucial for alternate starting scenarios like Pre-FTL or maybe for species which are not distinguishing between science and construction ship.
  • Customisable interaction with planets. Is it possible to add more actions when you right click on a planet? e.g. "Start Manned Research Mission". Basically an opportunity to trigger some gameplay-events.
  • Additionally it would be interesting when you could lock certain ships after some actions, so they can not be controlled directly from the player.

It's about the class of ship. The constructor, for instance, has:

is_civilian = yes
is_designable = yes
class = shipclass_constructor

The construction option seems to be linked to the constructor class token.

Ah, thats interesting.

Okay, indeed, it's working like a charm. But it seems like it's very restricted this way...
If I understand this right there is no way to...
  • make a science ship without a scientist
  • make a construction ship with a leader
And the worse part is that I can not make two types of survey ships to build up a more modular exploration of the universe, because if every survey ship has the same class "shipclass_science_ship", I can not distinguish between them in e.g. events. This is kind of a big restriction there.

Thank you very much for the enlightenment so far!
