Hi folks,

Just an announcement thread for an AAR I'll be starting in the next little while, it's been banging around in my head as I've been playing games with my favorite customized Empire. I'll be starting a fresh game and going from there.

Basic facts:

This will be a modded start. I don't plan to engage in exploits or powergaming, but to tell a story in a news report/propaganda/history book for dummies sort of way. I'll be using the Ringworld Start mod. But fret not! My homeworld will be the 'broken' Ringworld, that has a 1x25 planet. So yes, I am technically cheating but to balance out that nice start I'll be taking non-adaptive for the -10% habitability.

Race: Human/near Human (all phenotypes) ;)
Traits: Highly Intelligent, Non-adaptive, Venerable

Ethos: Fanatic Materialist, Xenophile

Government: Science Directorate -> Illuminated Technocracy

Thanks for any interest! I'll be posting an intro and background when I have a bit more time.

Cheers!

It was a hard road establishing the Technocracy. Even now, as we make our first steps into the larger Galaxy, remnants of our superstitious past remain in everyday use.
Take the defining event of our history, the Godswar. The stories are much the same no matter which corner of the world they came from. It's clear from these ancient legends that at some point in the far distant past a great war was fought. Apocalyptic forces were brought to bear as our terrified ancestors witnessed the sundering of the sky and awaited their turn. Only, it never came. The stories are unclear, but for some reason we were spared, or ignored.

We don't know where we came from originally. Any records that may have existed have been lost to the eons of time since we've inhabited the Arc. The shield walls, hundreds of kilometers of sheer foundation material on either side of our habitable zone kept us isolated, only in the last hundred years of the exploratory rocketry program have we set foot on the blasted remains of the greater Arc which has posed more questions than it answered. Who built it? Why? And most puzzling of all why and how does our habitable surface have several dozen kilometers of soil, rock and active geology beneath that permitted us to rise from our nomadic, primitive past?

Tribes, kingdoms, empires and nations rose and fell. A dizzying variety of cultish behavior plagued us for millenia. The rise of machine civilization brought us to the brink as we unlocked the secrets of the atom, and we warred among ourselves. After the devastation of the 2nd atomic exchange, a group of survivors formed the Society of Reason, the predecessor of our Technocratic state. Through education, charity and reconstruction the new vision of a society gradually overcame the superstitions of the past. The old cities and slums were abandoned for decontamination, with reclamation plans currently underway for re-population.

Now, as we stand on the precipice of a new era, Arcian minds must turn to the next challenge and secure the our future among the stars and perhaps answer the old question; where do we come from and how did we get here?
