Screen caught in endless loop of switching on and off

I tried to play HoI2 today but right after skipping the intro movie my monitor turns on and off repeatedly with no way to stop it and break the cycle. everything else on my computer runs fine, including Fallout 3 and Half-Life 2.

I'm playing Doomsday with arma, latest patch. if you were wondering.

any help would be MORE than fantastic.

When you say skipping the intro movie, do you mean pressing escape to get rid of it? If so, try renaming the avi folder to aviback. This will mean that the video won't play at all, but this might solve the problem.

Did that, fixed it for a bit but now it's not working at all and i'm having the same problem with Victoria.

EDIT: i changed 'avi.bak' back to 'avi' and now it plays the intro movie, but when i try to skip it i still have the problem with the screen turning on and off.
