Screen flicker & mouse pointer shadow

Publisher version of Game and the patch you are using (1.01, 1.02, etc)
I am using HOI2 DD Armageddon 1.03b, same problem occurs with DD 1.03a
Operating system (Win9x, WinMe, Win2000, etc.) and build.
I am running Win7 x64 Ultimate SP1
Computer Make, Model, CPU & speed
Intel i7-4770k @3.5k
Memory (RAM - the more you have, the better off you will be!)
With 32gb RAM
Free disk space on the hard drive where the game is installed
33,7Gb free on the SSD on which the game resides.
Video Card brand, model number, current driver version and video memory
Nvidia 660GTX OC2 SLI - tested with and without SLI, Samsung S27D390 27" screen, tried 50,59 and 60Hz frequency. tried 1920x1080 and 1024x768 non-wide resolution. (16-bit colours tried after I read 32-bit didn't work)

I think that’s everything you asked for in the sticky I hope.
A clear and detailed – yet concise – description of the problem you’re having. The more detailed information you give us, the faster we’ll be able to solve your problem.

When launching hoi2 the loading screen is fine but when that is done the screen starts to flicker and the mouse leaves shadows behind it (see picture, sadly the background flickers so that I can't get one of it).
If I continue and start the game the flickering persists.
It seems to in some weird way influence the screen itself as it keeps flickering quite a bit even after shut down of the game.

Have tried this:

If you are experiencing screen flicker at seemingly random intervals while playing the came, the following steps may be of use, as prescribed by Castellon:
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back [x]
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT [x]
3) If you're using the auto-hide feature of the task bar, disable it. [x]
4) If you have an Explorer window searching for a file or displaying search results, close it. [x]
5) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock. [x]
6) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3. [x]

Tried using WINDOWED when starting, results in a black screen.
Tried using XP SP2 & SP3 compatibility mode.

* Open your Start menu

* Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes)
* Click on the dxdiag program
* A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now
* Wait until the green bar at the bottom-left has disappeared
* At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information"
* Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop
* Attach this file with your ticket or email

I run the pagefile on my ram and it is a SSD, so defragging is a no-no. But thanks for the concern.

Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem? I bought the game when it first came out, but was too lazy to go search for the disk, so I purchased HOI2 from Steam, installed and had the same problem described here. Once the game starts, the screen flickers badly (and continuously) and the mouse leaves a trail of pointers. I uninstalled the Steam installed version and reinstalled it from my original disk that I had from years ago. It has the same flicker/mouse trail problem.

I'm trying to run the game on an Alienware laptop with a GeForce GTX 880M.
