Screen Flicker with new Beta [MAY 13]

I posted something similar in the Beta threads but have gotten no reply. Anyway, I am getting screen flicker whenever I play CK with the May 13 beta patch. My screen does NOT flicker with any other program, and did not flicker before the Beta with CK either. The funny thing is that it only started to flicker yesterday! I had played CK with May 13th beta before without this happening. Another funny thing is that it doesn't flicker during the intro cinema or load screen, only during the county/duchy/kingdom selection screen and during the actual gameplay. I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 with a Viewsonic E70fb monitor. I am using Direct X 9.0c, as well as the updated nVidia drivers. My screen does not flicker with anything else except during the actual gameplay of CK. Does anyone suffer the same fate?

Screen flicker is caused by another program running in the back ground, likely you updated another program lately and this is the cause.
Likely suspects are music match (you have to kill the processes for it.
Other known conflicts are the latest trillian beta.
And another culprit is ofcourse some virus protect programs, things that access the internet, autoupdaters, that kind of thing.

Thanks for the help. You were totally dead on as it was Musicmatch, and after I killed the processes the game worked fine. Thanks again.

I shutdown the programs which were running on background but the screen does still flicker. It didn't when I had version 1.00, but when I upgraded it to 1.04a, it does flick.

There was this same problem with Victoria when I upgraded it. Does PC-cillin 2002 cause this (it's a virus killer if you didn't know).

Well if you did not shut down your virus protection then you did not shut down all the programs running in the background.
Shut it down, virus stuff is horrible for causing conflicts, it is prob, number 2 behind music match.

My screen also flickers always but the easiest way to end this is to change the priority of crusader.exe to high!(via task manager) Then it stop flickering, at least for me...

I think it would depend on what is causing the flicker though.

What are all the processes for Music Match?

IIRC the one that causes the problem is MM.exe or MiM.exe

i had the flickering problem too - however i fixed it pretty easy - you have to disable VSYNC for the desired application, ck in the case Vsync sux
