Reload it with full deliveries of probes. Find where the metals are and start at that location. The map at a coordinate is always the same in almost every way. Even the anomalies have the same result with just which breakthrough is unlocked being randomized.

???? Why wouldn't one put a dome down after exploring 3-7 map squares? Otherwise time blows by and you don't hit your goals.

Because for the sake of minmaxing, "Every first dome must contain miners harvesting a rare metal deposit"™. Honestly, it's because the hard sponsors don't have the money to do anything else. If you can't be making money from the first day you have colonists, you're going to run out of money within a shipment or two of maintenance materials.

Plan on importing everything with all the money I'm making from exporting my non-existent precious metals?

Yes, I know that you can research to make money. But that's a hard shake with high disasters and shitty sponsor, and 2/3 of the map hidden behind ridges...

No way. Those are the most fun.
* First of all grab the mod that lets your Transport auto-collect metal.
* Second, plan ahead and know you'll be transporting some materials from Earth forever.
* Third - enjoy the challenge :)

or if you really want a challenge you could just play Frost Punk.
