Hey community,

does it make a difference for the city I am establishing, what sector features the sector of the city has? It seems to be only static bonuses are applied. Thus it makes sense to build cities in worse sectors and leave good sectors for later grabs by sector establishment.

Or am I missing something?

Okay, serious answer:
You have not missed something. Your central Sector is pretty much ignored as far as what its Climate/Biome combo is good for. I'm not sure I like this.
However, that isn't entirely true because:
The Climate will still apply for the <Climate> Habitats Happiness bonus.
The Biome will still apply for things like the Hydroponic Farms structure.
