Introduction
Secundum Imperium Romanum

A Prelude
Ever since the fall of Rome in the West in 476 AD, Europe faced three centuries of darkness, blood and uncivilized violence.
It was Karl Karling that adjusted the course of Europe. After the death of his brother, Karloman in suspicious circumstances in 771 AD, he united the Frankish people as one, and went on to conquer most of mainland Europe. In 775 AD, he was crowned the first Holy Roman Emperor.
For fifteen years, peace reigned. Karl, now known better as Charlemagne, placed his bastard son on the Italian Throne. Pepin the Hunchback was the son of Karl and his longtime lover, Himiltrude, and had been tutored by a Greek by the name of Ioulianos. The old man put a love of the old Roman ideal in the mind of the impressionable young man. Pooling all of the information available to him pertaining to the old Empire, he formulated a plan. He intended to reform the old Empire. Whilst the Byzantines ruled in the East, occupying themselves with fighting the Abbasids and the Bukhal Khaganate. In August of 790 AD, a rebellion in Angria broke out. Whilst the HRE was focused on the north, Pepin moved to declare his own independence. He marched on Vermandois, and held the then capital hostage. Charlemagne had little choice, and agreed to grant Pepin and the Italian Peninsula its independence. Pepin took the dynastic name Vermandius, in honour of the place he was raised.
On the 25th of December, 790 AD, the Roman Empire in the West was recreated by, Pepin the Glorious, later known as Pepinius Vermandius Gloriosus, but more commonly known as Emperor Gloriosus.
The Secundum Imperium Romanum had begun.

You would not believe how much tweaking it took to get the Roman Empire title without collapsing the Byzantines. It took about two hours total. I had considered doing this used WTWSMS, but it disliked my laptop. A lot.
This is based solely off a spur of the moment idea I had when Pepin the Hunchback converted to Hellenic due to his teacher. I played Charlemagne until Pepin was of age, then started playing him.
This AAR will be in what is turning into my signature style, the History Book. I won’t be focusing on the Vermandian dynasty, but whoever the Emperor (or Augustus) is. I will also, as usual be trying to stay true to the character traits each ruler has, so no going mad and invading everyone if a ruler is peaceful.
I should also probably point out that Pepin’s Roman Empire is pretty bastardized. Not sure how much information on the Western Roman Empire was available in the 700’s Europe, but I’m fairly certain it wouldn’t be as extensive as what we know now, so his entire Empire is based on the information he actually had access to, don't expect a direct copy of the classic Roman Empire or Byzantines.
There might be some input from you guys for some minor things (like agnomens for Emperors and whenever I decide to reform the Hellenic religion.), and, in some circumstances, where I attack next.
“Advise me, honoured Roman Citizens!”
