Will they ever have a more active role other than dying, becoming Solent Green and leaving an available resident space?

Here's what I would suggest.
1. Seniors having a high comfort/sanity/moral level rating gives everyone else a moral boost, and if seniors have a low comfort/sanity/moral rating it will give everyone a moral penalty . The idea being that if colonists know they will be taken care of in old age they'll be less miserable in the present, and if they believe they will be neglected in old age they will be more miserable in the present. There would be new buildings to help facilitate this (like proper retirement home residences).
2. When a colonist becomes a senior, they have a chance at developing a new trait (not sure what a good name for it is) and staying in the workforce. The chance is much higher for Workaholics or for colonists with low-stress jobs.
Hello!
I really like your ideas! Do you think "hobbyist" would be that trait you talk about in point 2, as in they will keep doing their job as a hobby sort of thing?
Cheers!
Thanks. An idea: maybe a mosoleum building that adds comfort to the domeThere is already a breakthrough tech to make them more useful ~Forever Young. And then there's the workshops that are being added in Opportunity that they will probably be able to use
Really great ideas!I like the idea of senior workers, too. There could be several policies or restrictions on this though.
Ideas:
- Some Seniors could receive the "Guru" (Mentor) trait, being an inspiration for the younger colonists.
- Say the Seniors cannot work as hard as the young ones. You may restrict a worker slot for young, or old workers. Mixed teams might perform better. Maybe it would be best to be able to reserve slots for experts only, too.
- You could offer a "flying home" ticket to earth for (at least Earth Born) citizens to get rid of them, like the earth sick people.
- Skills of senior citizens may decline. They should frequently have the chance to loose their special education or positive traits.
- There should be retirement homes for seniors, which could generate money. Following this idea it might even be a good idea to import senior citizens from Earth in order to generate money. Life may even be easier for elder people on Mars. Eg. a man in a wheelchair might be able to walk on Mars because of lower gravity.
I think Mausoleums of cemeteries should be outside of domes, btw., because dead people need less services like "air", "food", "shelter" or "heat".
